May you all have joy and peace on this Christmas season (not Xmas). I wish all the kids and grandkids would have trouble sleeping on Christmas Eve. I wish all of them could imagine hearing sleigh bells on the roof at 11:30 PM. I wish all of them would wake up (or maybe just get up) on Christmas morning and find that Santa had eaten the snack they left for him. I wish all the Mamas and Daddys could see (with a tear in their eye) the pure joy that is a child beholding what Santa has left for him/her.

I have heard the argument that to teach a child that Santa is real is to teach a lie. My response to that is (well, I can't print it here). Some of the fondest memories of my childhood have been around the Christmas season. For a child this can be pure magic. To deny a child the opportunity to participate in this is pure shameful!

OK, I have already taken my special medication for the evening!

BTW Mariner, has that butterfly caused you any trouble? I had a Klein's Butterfly (no pun intended) that I got to eat tulip anemones (which he/she never even noticed). He/she picked on the corals to the point that I had to catch him/her and banish him/her to the sump jail. Unfortunately, the Lord called him/her home a week or so ago.

Well said Harry. Couldn't agree more. I will never forget my youngest son who was about 5. We left Christmas Eve so that my parents could deliver the presents. We returned, my son saw the cookies gone and was so excited. Then he saw the other plate of cookies we left in the kitchen and one cookie was missing from there. He said "Wow Santa must have been hungry!!!" My Dad was the one that was hungry. My Dad never forgot that night and neither will I.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

on the subject of santa. i think maybe santa should be to children no different than superman or spiderman. you know. its no less magical . just fun to pretend that there real. that way you dont have to lie and they never have to go through that whole santas not real scenario.

just a thought.

p.s. mariner, i like your "design demands a designer" thing. i agree 100%

Merry Christmas!! Give a youngster an aquarium this season. Spark the passion... it is much better than sitting in front of a t.v. playing Wii. Pass it on.

I copied this from a blog that I read often. Kinda along the same lines as I posted above.

Were you one of those children who could never sleep on Christmas Eve? I was and I remember my disappointment when I realized Santa wasn't real. Santa's sleigh was a 1976 Ford Ranger Custom. It was sitting in the front yard as Charlie and my father unloaded our gifts. I walked out of my bedroom crying to find my mother standing in the hall in her pajamas.

"What's wrong honey?" My mom asked.

"Santa's not real. There is no Santa. Dad and Charlie are Santa," I replied.

"Santa's sleigh broke down and your father and Charlie are helping him get his presents around town," I remember my mom saying.

I was placated somewhat, but still had suspicions.

Now that I am grown, I realize Santa is alive and well in all our hearts. The gift giving. The wonderful food. The decorations. All things that prove to me that Santa is still working his magic. I think this Christmas is going to be truly magical for me this year. I can't wait to share it with you all on my blog. Merry Christmas!

Harry,
That Pyramid Buttefly had been a model citizen until the day I took that pic. Notice he seems to be eyeing the hammer coral. He decided he liked it. It's the only thing he's bothered so far.

All you kids better jump in bed tonight and cover up your head, 'cause Santy (Not Santa) Claus comes tonight!

And if you don't believe in Santy Claus, you're a . . . . . ? Well, you're a humbug!

Mary Ruth and I wish you a merry one you folks!

Oh yeh, I believe in Santa. I saw him last year trying to squeeze down the septic vent into the house. Looked a lot like Harry's avatar. :bounce2: :bounce3: :bounce2: :bounce3:
This year I'm leaving him milk, cookies and a plunger.

This Santa just got all the gifts put out for a rabid 5 year old and is going to bed.
What is really funny is that I am 37 and I am giving my five year old Star Wars stuff this year which is exactly what I wanted when I was six and the original movie came out.
I bought a Darth Vader Tie Fighter for all you Star War geeks out there complete with Vader in his pilot suit from the first movie and a Light Saber. It sorta makes me feel young again.
Merry Christmas everyone!
