sebae anemone dying?

my yellow/white sebae anemone ahs a hole on the bottom of it's foot. there is a small tube-like thing coming out pf it. what do i do? will it survive?

i have no clue. i noticed it had a hole, and there was some yellow fleshy material coming out of it. the foot was covered in it. i picked it up and gently wiped it off. today, the fleshy material is gone and instead i see the hole, now there is something else coming out of it.

The anemone isn't attached to anything -- did you just get it? Did it smell bad when you handled it?

i got it a few weeks ago. it didn't smell, and i didn't really take it out of the water. it is on it's side. kind of shriveled up. what should i do?

The only thing you can really do is try to get it to attach to some rock, probably near the sand. Has it attached to anything since you got it? Feed it -- has it eaten since you got it? Water parameters ok? What kind of light is on it? What are you using for flow? How long has your tank been running?

i am using a wavemaker for flow, it is a jvp-101. it hasn't attached to anything since i got it, but i have seen it move around. it just shifts it's wight. fed it last week and am about to feed it again. a pair of saddleback maroons host/hosted it but they haven't gone in today. at least i haven't seen them. water params are good. 2 vho 16 w bulbs. total of 320 watts but am going to upgrade soon. tank has been running for about 6 months now. i know it can't be water, because my lta and my condy are both doing pretty good.

Not familiar with your wavemaker, but the tentacles of the anemones should be moving pretty well in the current. If it is not attaching, then that is not a good sign. I have heard that it is a bad idea to mix different species of anemones in the same tank, but cannot speak from experience on that. Not sure about your lighting, you say 2 16w bulbs which would be 32w (not 320) which sounds way too low, and could be part of the issue.

FYI -- a yellow H. Crispa is a dyed one -- their track record is awful.

I wouldn't get rid of it yet, but in my experience hole in the foot has always been fatal.

There is a slim possibility that a dyed one could recover. However, with it being dyed and having the hole in the foot, the outcome isn't very good.

I agree. Anything is possible- so we always keep hope alive. The likelyhood of it healing up is quite slim however.
