Sebae keeps flipping upside down

My Blue tip Sebae is trying to kill himself. He keeps flipping upside down. He is getting shriveled up and does not look good.
 
Have you tested your water?? And If so what were the results.. What lights are you running and how long and can you post pics???

I agree more info is needed to make a diagnosis.

Also Sebaes are very tricky to keep.
 
72 bow- HOB skimmer -4 powerheads - no sump
2 - T5HO 54w one is 18,000k and the other is a blue light

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 20

He was fine for about 2 months and then 2 weeks ago he started fliping upside down. Mouth is not tight and I dont think it ever has been.

I feed bits of silversides every 3 days.

yeah your nitrates are high and you should be testing for Kh and Calcium. Also your lights are weak for a Sebae. Only 108 watts for a 72! You should have like 300 minimum, probably more. Look in to fixtures in the lighting forum, google and check out www.marinedepot.com
 
Your SG is a touch low. I'd get it up to 1.025 or 1.026. You are checking it with a refractometer, correct? I don't know that 1.024 would be enough to hurt a sebae though, but it would probably stress it.

Are you checking your TDS out of your RO/DI? (Honestly, I'm not trying to ask stupid questions, but I realized I wasn't testing my RO/DI often enough and a couple of the filters had worn out well before I expected them to.)

Sounds like he was doomed from the beginning. The sg at 1.024 would not be the cause of him being distressed. Sebaes come in severely stressed and most don't make it no matter how good the water quality is. I used to work in an LFS and the sebaes all look great when the owner picks them up at a warehouse but a few weeks later they flip upsidedown and whitter away and die no matter what we do to reverse the situation.

Yes they are definitely not a beginner nem. and care must be taken to get a specimen that has a chance of survival. You should give it to a friend to take care of until you upgrade lighting and start testing ca and kH

So is he attached to the rock? Well that is good to hear. Have you looked into the lighting or testkits ?
