Sebae Under T5s

Hey everyone,

I just bought a Sebae anemone and I have a 4 bulb 216watt sundial fixture. I am wondering if anyone else has had success with t5s and a sebae? I was assured at the LFS that it was OK and now that I am reading online I am not sure.

The Sebae is very healthy looking and seems to be doing great. He has a tan color and his tenticles seem to be long and look healthy.

Also, I was wondering what owners feed their anemones? I heard Silversides are good?

The anemone has a diameter of around 8 inches.

Thanks,
Evan

Yeah i know thats why I was asking the question. I am seeing that most people think that MH are the only way to go. Also, is it necessary to feed every day? and what do i feed?

don't sebaes reside in the sand? and do they need a lot of flow?

I'm thinking about rescuing one and attempting to nurture him back to health. This really bad LFS has him listed as a BTA for $15.

The tank has good flow and strong lighting.

Ive read that some people think it is better to use more daylight bulbs, so the anemone can feed off it more. I have it split with atinics right now. Anyone agree?

Does Anyone Have an opinion of the feeding of the anemone??????

I fed mine silversides for years, but no longer do. I would chop them into a few pieces and feed it little bits at a time. Feed it all of the fish including the head, etc. I feed mine small foods now, krill, mysis, etc. I feed mine almost every day, just not a lot at once. I have had it almost 8 years. Good luck with yours.

mine lives in a crevice between 2 rocks with its foot either on or buried in the sand, no way to be sure. They should have decent flow, enough to sway the tentacles a good amount in the current but not blasting it.

Thanks for the advice rhdoug. I think im going to get some silversides today and maybe some of the medium sized krill. Now that the sebae has opened almost full he is around 10 inches! He still looks good and maybe I can get a picture on here to show everyone.

Here are some pics of the anemone and a FTS. Quality is not the greatest sorry, all I had was my cell phone cam.

The anemone is just holding on to the krill and then in about 5 min letting it go. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make him eat or entice him to eat?

Here is a photo of what he is doing.

not all anemones will eat krill. Are you using frozen or freeze dried? I doubt that the freeze dried would work, and if you are using frozen you thawed it first in tankwater? Try something else like mysis, or any frozen meaty fish food should work. There is no way to "make" it eat. Sometimes I would lightly impale a krill on a wooden skewer and jiggle it into the tentacles and that always triggered a feeding response. But I would using a turkey baster and lightly blowing a thawed frozen mix of different foods directly onto the anemone and see if it eats. That is how I feed mine. I only feed it tiny food now, even cyclopeeze.

I am using frozen krill and i did thaw it. Hes not too interested in the mysis when i feed. I just gave him a thawed half of a silverside and he took it but hasnt eaten it yet. How large is your anemone rhdoug? and i will try the skewer either today or tomorrow. I dont want to stress him out tho, forcing food on to him.

Mine is also around 10-12 inches when fully expanded. I woudn't worry too much about it eating immediately, it may take it several days to settle in.

repost from Reef Discussion:
I can't see any pictures.

I use to feed mine frozen formula 1 cubes, he loved it. Also fed a variety of other stuff because he hosted anemone crabs. He loved ghost shrimp too.
I think your lighting should be good, just keep an eye on him to be sure
Good Luck!!

Edit: I had used silversides also, but stopped because they make a mess in tank!!

Looks like a very healthy anem, did it attach in the place that you wanted or did it move around? How did you place it, make a hole or just put it on the rock?
I wouldn't be concerned about feeding it for a couple of weeks--after acclimating fully.
