Sebae won't attatch!

yeah this guy is very healthy it seems, but my LTA that died last week was not. I probably should have fed it differently, maybe the way you are. Nems are all still new to me :)

Stressed 'nems don't like to be force fed...however...

If a 'nem is bleached it is not healthy...it will start using itself as food/energy which is why a sick, bleached 'nem whithers away to nothing and dies...just like a person...

So...when they are bleached, you have to feed them at least every other day so that they have something other than themselves to digest for energy...even though they are bleached, there may still be a few cells of zooanthellae (sp) algea left in the tentacles...since the 'nem is not digesting itself for food nor is it relying on the algae for energy it gives the 'nem a chance to maintain itself for a while, while the algae is reproducing itself...

This will eventually allow the 'nem to gain back it's beneficial algae and start using the algae to produce it's energy through light absorbtion...the nem still needs to be fed but the 1x per week feeding is enough at this point...

If you have a severely stressed 'nem and don't feed it, it will do nothing but die...my thread has some pics from someone who bought a bleached H. Crispa and nursed it back to health using this very method...the link was posted previously...take a look...

well, i tried to feed him as suggested, but the piece of krill that i put at his mouth just layed there for about 30 minutes until he slowly pushed it off. =( I guess i'll just hope he'll eat sooner or later.

Does your 'nem still feel sticky? If not, then all hope may just about be lost...or, the piece of krill was too big for it to take in...you may need to push it "into" the tentacles right over top of the mouth just a tad...very lightly just to get it to "grip" the food and draw it into the mouth...I had to do that a few times...

You have to be really super careful putting food directly into it's mouth...

I would go more with Mysis rather than brine though...more meaty which meaty is what 'nems like...

Almost all the Sebae anemones around here come in bleached and most LFS throw them in a tank under poor pc lighting. I would suggested trying some other meaty foods in small pieces such as silversides or a different kind of shrimp etc. Like the others said don't force the food in the nems mouth. Good luck hope it pulls through.

I think that is almost a standard (unfortunately) among all but the high-end LFS...unfortunately, stores like PetCo, PetSmart, etc. seem to get these things in so much and then try to keep them in poorly lit, poorly filtered tanks...and of course we get them home and have 0% chance of success with them...the success that I've had trying to bring mine back as well as several others that have chimed in seems to be the exception rather than the rule...this is such a horrible way for such a beautiful creature to meet it's demise... :(

okay guys, i believe this is good news. Last night, the new decided to move around the tank some (at least he's attatched now), but he only went a few inches. anyway, that's a good sign, right?

Mine has found a spot near the front-right corner of my tank that he likes to hang out in...he just hasn't burrowed down to the glass yet to attach...he is burrowing about halfway down no matter where he ends up...
