secham reef salt switch to red sea pro

Hay guys I was looking in switching salt brands iv used seachem reef salt for a while now almost 2 years and I'm tired of spending $ on alk,cal,mag, supplements to keep them up ...with this red sea pro its got everything in it ..iv herd horror storys of switching salts ..just killing all the coral but I'm not sure... what do you guys think and has any one done this resently.. thanks...

I use Red Sea Coral Pro salt and still have to dose heavily on Ca/Alk/Mg. Salt isn't going to help you much there if you have a lot of SPS or clams.

Switching salts wasn't that big of a deal for me. I just had to test more frequently afterwards to adjust my dosing schedule.

I figured ill still have to dose but hopefully less frequently ...I mainly want to switch cuz when I do water changes I have to buffer the water quite a bit the seachem dose not contain as much supps and elements as the rsp does so im building it up with the other seachem products .... This guy I know just gave me a bucket of the rsp salt ..he told me he didn't like it and would never use it again...he said (he was using a chemical blend of salt prior to the rsp did a water change with the rsp salt and the chemical reaction between the fake blends of salt and the natural salts of the rsp destroyed his coral colonys in a matter of minets idk if he was exagerating but eather way is it really worth the chance?? Iv been told this by a local reef guy as well something similar happend to him ....

I've tried both salts mentioned, along with every other, your going to dose if the demand is higher than the supply.

The stuff on the RSP "natural" salt having a reaction with "fake" salt is total bogus. Salt is Salt in it basic for NaCl, does not matter where it is made or where is comes from. What is different in the salt brands is the other eliments, buffers, etc. Now the ph, alk etc can be very different between brands, but that is because of the other items added, not the salt. I could see if somebody did a large water change with ANY (would not need to be rsp) salt that was very different than the parameteres in their tank, it could cause a problem. That has to do with changing the environement in the tank too quickly, nothing todo with salt brand. With most people doing 10 to 20% water changes, it still remains unlike a water change could change your numbers enough to cause a complete crash.

i am using red sea salt not the coral pro as the KH was way too high for me . i am using Zeovit which requires 6.5 to 7.5

How about a bucket of RSP with no batch # mine dose not have one iv been reading stuff online and people are having phosphate problems?? Anyone run across this or head of it??? Let me know....
