Second sub forum for tank builds

29reef

It's all about the flow
I really think this needs to happen...how many votes will it take mods?

Maybe we need more mods on the forum, seems there's lots of off topic stuff lately. You guys do a great job, but I think the sps forum can possibly be better.

I used to come to this forum for information, now it seems that there's lots of dying corals and tank builds. Maybe some of the members aren't as active as they used to be, but I feel like there's something that RC might be able to do to better facilitate the rebirth of this forum.

Sorry to be off topic. I hope that after 10 years of sps that I still have more to learn and enjoy. Maybe it's just Friday....

Here's an acro to keep us more on topic :D

At first I was going to propose a "dying corals" forum as a joke, but that might actually be helpful.

I like this idea as half the threads are tank builds and I do enjoy looking at them but come hear for the info on sps. 29reef whats the coral in the upper left of the photo looks lower than the green acro? I like it.

Maybe a SPS tank forum, SPS ID forum, and a SPS care forum.

It's a purple table, Its got a purple base, blue tips and green polyps. Neat tabling growth. Not sure the species.

I agree with separate forums. The organization is currently not great. Build threads float to the top with all of the comments, while info sinks.

When tank builds started taking over the SPS forum, I honestly quit coming here. The SPS Tank Builds should be in a sub-forum in order to allow the husbandry issues to show up more. I'm sure I'm not the only one who isn't willing to dig through tank builds on top to find someone who might need help/advice pages later.

Im in agreement that there is too much info on build threads. I disagree with the comments on dying and sick corals threads being out of place. I thought thats what this was for. How many pe and show me threads can we need?

Looks like just about the whole first page is tank threads. Its easy to see why many experienced sps keepers aren't around here any more. It's all about people looking for recognition of their aquariums.

I have nothing against people posting threads asking for help, but when theres two great stickys on the top of the forum on water quality and SPS pests, and I see new posts every day on the same subject, I tend to ignore them because the forum is full of the information they need already.

agreed that we should have a separate build forum. So much good information gets lost in the haze of dozens of build threads.

I like the build threads alot, but they are the desert of the meal. Nice pics, a good story, fun to follow. The meat of the meal that I come to the SPS forum for is to learn more about SPS care, and it is becoming harder to find this.

my 2 cents, from a lurker who reads this forum every day.

Hmmm...the SPS forum has been almost my sole forum here on RC and I have been here a while and I don't think it has changed much. SPS tank show offs (maybe not necessarily the building aspect so much) has been around for the last 6-7yrs I've been here. I agree that maybe this forum is not what it used to be in terms of usage but the content seems the same to me.
I'm not against an SPS tank subforum though......or a help me out sub forum.

But what will the main forum contain..... just simply coral show off and discussion.

Is it to much to ask skim 2 pages of topics. This forum doesn't move as fast as it used to. I don't see what the big deal is or why this keeps coming up as topic every 3-4 months.

If you don't want to talk about things don't 100% pertain to sps. Start by taking your Feedback about the sps forum (and not about sps) to the feedback forum. ;)

All kidding aside. I really don't feel like rehashing this debate again so I'm just going to leave it with...

...no I don't agree.

Maybe the fact that it keeps coming up may mean that it might be a positive change for the forum.

Doubtful last thing RC needs is more rules and boxes. Some people just feel the need to label/compartmentalize everything to the nth degree and don't get the hint when the staff denies the request the first 20 times. I can say as forum admin myself, all it will do is create more work for the staff. There are lots of topics I don't like in the sps forum. I simply choose not read them.

I agree. I love reading the tank build threads, but my main purpose for visiting this forum is to inform myself about the husbandry and diversity of the individual SPS corals.

For those of us who are unable to visit this site every day, we can easily miss some valuable information as the build threads dominate while the husbandry threads "sink".

How about an spscentral.com?

There someone go out and build it, it woulc have all the sub forums you could imagine. ;)

On our local club forum we have a members tank journal forum.

I've been asking for a build forum for years. Never happened.... I put my tank build thread in my local reef club forum on RC so I wouldn't keep bumping it on the SPS forum. I am sure folks would get tired of seeing my thread on the front page of SPS forum all the time....lol

I agree with making a sub forum for tank builds. I am currently trying to set up a new tank for Sps and it is very hard to find information on these corals with all the build threads. When you use the search box most of the matches are for build threads. Can someone please give me a good link to care for Sps corals?

Also, one of the more irritating things on the SPS forum is when people write something like:

"Here's a picture of an empty glass tank. I plan on adding stuff to it. Please comment."

And then two days later:

"Here's a picture of an empty glass tank on a stand. I plan on adding even more stuff to it. Please comment."

It usually takes 5-10 pages for me to find any useful information at all about SPS on some of these threads.

Perhaps the RC blogs were an attempt to address this? Maybe we could vote build threads into the SPS forum if they get really good.

So if you have a tank build thread on this SPS forum and are reading this, take a hint and let it fall off the front page. Link it to a thread in another forum where you can continue it. :) Just my humble two cents that not worth much..... Lol
