Seen any nigripes lately?

they arrived today, and the suspense was terrible. they looked great in the bag, got a thirty minute acclimation back at home and once released went immediately for my magnificas. only to find themselves being stuck to the tentacles.

so now they hover close to the sand and follow my face in unison when looking at them. they arent as orange as i anticipated, but im confident they will survive. they appear to be very healthy. now i just wait for them to adjust, find the anemones again...and im set.

my local shop also brought in some perculas, occellaris and black occellaris from sustainable aquatics, they all looked very good. the blacks were solid black, even at their small size.

the three day brook timer has been set, but i doubt i will see any problems by the time it goes off.

What is this 3 day brook timer? It was my understanding these disease can pop up up to 8 weeks after receiving them (any fish) and that it was best to QT for that time.

they certain can, youre right. but typically in my experience after 8 weeks, if your fish has not contracted brooklynella it probably wont.

when wild caught fish (specifically nigripes, chrysopterus and other difficult to acquire clown species) are first placed in a tank whether QT or not, three days is about all you have before brooklynella sets in. in my experience, if your fish can get past day three with an appetite and regular breathing the fish should do just fine.

Yeah but would you put them in an established fish tank after 3 days or QT longer?

with wild caught specimens i would certainly wait at least a week before putting them into an established system. some keep their fish in QT for several weeks. the three days marker i refer to is merely when to expect disease to kick in. but like you mentioned disease can still pop up well after this.

I was going to get three. I guess I will just get two. I wanted to put them in my 95 g cube with two Magnifica in it. How much per fish did you get them for?

minh, i would definitely recommend you get only a pair. compared to their wild caught counter parts, they were significantly cheaper. i got mine in the range of $25 a fish.

Thanks for the thread, Ron. I know someone that's allowing a magnifica to settle in with the intention of getting a group of nigripes to go with it. I'll have to show him this thread. We'll probably have to look for a different species.
How big was your friends tank?

my friend had three magnificas in a 100 gallon, i believe.
