Seio controller running mod'd Koralia 4's

I just got a Seio wavemaker controller hooked up to 2 mod'd ( 2100 algae free props, turned around) Koralia 4's, and when the controller switches to high the pumps make a slight buzzing noise, a bit moreso than without the controller. Is it possible the controller is spinning them faster than just plugged into an outlet? They arent spinning backwards.

From what I understand the Korlalias 4's are not controllable because of the type of motors they have. They d make controllable versions but onlt the newest versions will work with controllers.

They are controllable. My Seio controller is doing it right now. Got an answer on my club site, and the way the Seio controller works it does seem like its possible that they are spinning faster with the controller, which is whats creating the additional noise when on high speed. Anyone else running Koralias on the Seio controller?

Here's how it was explained.

"Sure. A wave controller that will work with the standard AC synchronous motor used in powerheads is a frequency converter. It takes in 60 Hz from the wall, turns it into DC, and then reconverts it back into AC with whatever frequency they want depending on how fast they want the motor to go. But there are limits. With most motors you have a range of about half speed to 2x speed. "

Sure they are controllable, any AC pump can be hooked up to any AC output wavemaker/controller but that doesnt mean that they are designed or recommended for use on a controller/wavemaker. Whether it wears the pump out faster is a matter of debate but there are often noise issues. Most commonly with the on/off controllers, many of the powerheads/pumps chatter on startup. I used the Koralia pumps and Tunze nano on the Seio controller for a while. The Seio Controller is technically only designed for some models of the Seio pumps. Any issues you are having are because the Koralia pumps arent designed for the controller and vice versa. The issue I had was an occassional chatter when the Seio went into, I think, low speed, But it may have been chatter at high speed ... It's been a while since I used the combo.

I know this isnt what you want but ... The real solution is to use the Seio controller with the actual pumps it was designed to control. Or, buy a DC controller and the pumps made to operate on them ... Tunze, Koralia ... I think Taam/Seio/Rio has some new controllable options like the Polaris ... generics like Resun (sp?), Vortech etc.
The Maxijets in stock form tend to operate well on standard on/off wavemakers.

I run two Koralia 4s on a Seio wavemaker and I don't have any stalling problems or noise issues. It works just fine. Mine are not modded though.

I'm pretty sure in one of the big Koralia threads someone posted that they were in touch with Hydor, and they said it would be OK to run th Koralia's on the Seio controller. I took them off it for now cause I'm still not sure what the buzzing is, could be vibration cause the MJ magnet is a slightly different size, or calcium buildup in the pump ( they're far from new ), or the prop is spinning faster.
