Selcon Concentrate

MBC2012

life gets better daily
I have been decide to add Selcon Concentrate to the thawed and rinsed food I feed. I wanted to get an idea from others if they have seen their fish health improve or a least not get ill.

Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Selcon, like human vitamins, help provide long-term benefits. Actually seeing any drastic change would be doubtful. I've used it twice a week for years and pretty much trust the published authors/reports on its benefit. Adding vitamins just seems to make sense and sure doesn't hurt anything.

I use it with all frozen food (along with several other vitamins) and am starting to use it with pellet and some flake food. I don't feed it everyday, since it will increase your PO4 but at any rate IMO it will help health long term. Don't look at it as a quick fix for anything like MrTuskfish mentioned but it can't hurt

Thanks for your input. I have no need for a quick fix as the reef is health.
Dmorty217.......how many times a week/month do you use it?
We currently does vit C and occasionally iodine - both are on a schedule but we alway run carbon.

I have always questioned how much the fish get from the frozen foods - does it really soak in, or just wash off? Pellets really soak it up and I have little doubt that the fish get lots of it in this case.

I have also wondered this.

Here is what I do. Every time I buy a flat pack of PE Mysis I also buy a bottle of Selcon. I then open the flat pack and pour the full bottle of Selcon over the Mysis and it almost instantly freezes. I then cut the Mysis into squares and put them back into the freezer until use. When I go to feed I take just a very tiny amount of tank water and put it in a cup, then I drop the square with the Selcon part facing up (only about 1/4 of the cube is underwater). After about 10 minutes the Mysis is thawed but it still stays in the area I dropped it in and most of the cloudiness from the Selcon is confined to the Mysis. Not sure if any of this does any good but I feel better :lol2:

New Life Spectrum pellets are the ones to use. They are also full of all kinds of fatty acids and vitamins and I don't even know if selcon would be all that necessary if you feds lots of them. However, they do soak up garlic, selcon and the like with ease.

I feed 66-75% pellets, 25% mysis and every once in a while throw in some other kind of forzewn food that looked interesting when I was at the fish store.

With the NLS pellets, I was able to raise pomacanthus in captivity that you could barely tell looked any different than an adult collected from the ocean. Years ago, the ones that chagned in captivity would have far less color. Needless to say, I really like the NLS pellets.

I feed selcon soaked foods at least once a day, also soaked with vita c and other vitamins. I only feed new life spectrum pellets and omega one pellets. Flake food is ocean nutrition brand

I'm a strong supporter of Selcon actually there is a product S.e.l.c.o. Boost that I like even better than selcon.

I think overall my fish are healthy get over any diseases quicker (if any). I use it all the time.

Best of luck but I think it works.

I alternate between Selcon & Zoecon. I've also used Vita-chem. Basically, when my fish start fighting and get battle scars... I soak their food to expedite the healing process. Works wonders. I also soak pellets in Omega-3 fish oil (thanks Paul B). If you look at the listed ingredients for Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem... they all contain fish oil.

I gutload grindal worms various selcon soaked pellets. Often times when I put a new fish in, they wouldn't go for the pellet I was using at the time but I have not seen a fish yet that will turn down a grindal.

My favorite food to add selcon/vitachem to is Omega One pellets. It is the driest pellet food I've found, and soaks up the vitamins like a sponge, so I am 100% certain the fish are getting them.
