Selling fish

I am thinking of raising a few fish in my garage for fun and a learning experience for my daughter. So far all that I have breed/raised is peppermint shrimp but I would like to try my hand at other species. But I was wondering what response have you gotten from stores wear you were trying to sell your fish? Also what can you expect to get for Peppermint( Lysmata wurdemanni ), clowns( Ocellaris )?

Thanks Chris

everything depends on where you are at, and what you are doing. I have a wholesellers license so I sale them at wholesale prices, which I would rather not say what those are, because it is not the same prices in any two areas.
if you are near a major breeder, or a major airport, or major collection spot of the ocean, then you will have to sell fairly low, if you are in a fairly rural area, then you can sell a bit higher.

If you don't want to go through the steps of getting a wholesellers license, or a retail license, then you will pretty much end up selling them for the prices MimicTang mentioned, or perhaps tradeing them for store credit.

Thanks for the quick replies. I don’t think I will be getting any sort of license It would not be practical for the amount of live stock produced. I don’t think there is a way for me to turn a profit with the limited time that can be devote to the project. However it might be a great learning tool for my daughter.

If your daughter is learning, or soon to be learing about life cycles, or has a life science class, or anything like that, it will be a great learning experience, and if she is involved enough to be able to tell a teacher all the steps it takes for the fish to grow, while showing off the set up during a class project it should be a guaranteed A+, especially if you teach her why captive breeding is an important tool in the fight to save the reefs.

Good luck,
I am only begining in this area too, but I would be more then happy to pass on anything I have learned to this point if you have any questions.
