Ken, did ya get the house in SD? The good thing about buying a house is you get all kinds of money back after escrow closes. We were getting all kinds of checks in the mail from both escrow's lenders when we bought our last house. They over shoot the cost all the time:D
No, ended up going into escrow on a house in Glendora instead. Really nice, plus has a shared wall with the garage for my in-wall dream.

Yinger, I'll shoot Sr71 a PM and see if he is still selling.

Ken,
trust me on this one as we bought our first house just 3 years ago. MOVE the LAUNDRY AREA INTO THE HOUSE. Get it out of YOUR GARAGE NOW! :D

Reasons:

#1 gives her no excuse to go into YOUR garage.

#2 Gives her no excuse not to do laundry.

#3 Gives her no excuse to store HER stuff in YOUR garage.

:D :D :D

As for tank size, I too think you should go as big as possible. Just do it smartly and the cost won't be as bad. Things like eductors for flow on C/L don't add electrical cost. A few good size/low draw pumps for circulation. Light movers for light systems eliminates extra lights/cost.

I started with the idea of a 150 I already had. Wound up trading the lighst i had for it and a little cash for a 190 and sold the 150. before I could get it all built, found a deal of the century on the 400. Got it and sold my three tanks, 190, 135, 60 that were sitting in the garage waiting to be set up. Now me AND the misses are happy we got the 400. :D take your time and look around, you'll find a good deal somewhere. ;)

Oh and you'll have frags waiting for you when you big tank is set up & running. ;)

Depends on how you run them. 2 X 400W DE MH lights on for 6 hours a day on a light mover = 12 hours.

4 X 400 W DE MH lights on for 4 hours each in sequence w/ some overlap = 16 hours.

Plus it's less initial cost and less bulb replacement cost. ;)

Plus in my case, I have the advantage of having a south facing wall full of windows so I'll get a constant natural sun light on the tank every day. ;) Tank is going in a 12' X 30' sunroom addition.

if you run 2 x 400 for 6 hours (moving), it means that each 1/4 of your tank gets 3 hours of light per day.

if you run 4 x 400 for 4 hours each (static), it means that each 1/4 of your tank gets 4 hours of light per day.

So yes, you're using less energy, but your corals are getting less light.

Armando,

Light rail moves at I beleive 6 feet per hour. Light rail is 6' long so it makes one pass per hour. My tank is 7' long. Space the two lights at 2' apart on the same rail. The tank will get more than 3 hours of light on any given area. ;)

Oh and by the way, the sun dosen't sit in the same spot all day. ;)

Sorry Ken, it's empty now. I'll call him tonight for a price and pm you tonight or tomorrow with the contact info. How long until you would be ready. I ask because the tank is still up and running.

Wow! So much for science class, that idiot teacher of mine had me believing that the earth was the one movin'! :D

Not exactly :)

I had a light mover in my tank so I know how it works, what works and what doesn't.

A good analogy (can't remember who posted) is this:

Take 3 kids to MacDonalds. Buy 1 (one) hamburger. Have the kids sit one besides another, in a row. Move the hamburger slowly back and forth and each kid takes a bite when the burger is in front of him.

You saved money. But at the end, is the result the same as if you had bought 3 hamburgers, one for each kid? Ask the question to the kids ;) :D

Your welcome John, nice meeting you and enjoy those coral and the clam.

ROTFLMAO

It all depends on your perspective. Do we orbit the sun?

Or does everything orbit the earth?

:D
Actually, you are all wrong. The world revolves around ME selling all my coral so I can move into my new house :p

Interesting topic though. Maybe when I get my house and new tank I'll set up a light mover as well... or just to throw everyone off I'll set up a tank mover and leave the lights stationary

ROTFLMAO.

I'd like to see a tank mover.

Well I'm going with a light mover for now. Maybe I have an advantage as I'll also be getting a lot of natural sunlight too as the tank is going in my new sunroom with a 30' wall of south facing windows. Get's plenty of light in there. :D
