Seperate Fuge and Sump

Never had a fuge but would like to have one in my new large build. I was thinking about what order the filtration should be in and regrading the fuge thought maybe first would be good to process nutrients/detritus before the skimmer but then thought maybe it's better last so pods will actually make it back to the tank.

Then I realized I could have both if I just run the fuge totally seperate. one pipe from tank drains to fuge then it gets pumped right back, or just drained to return area of sump. What do you guys think? Should I keep it simple and put it in the sump, if so where? Or should i go seperate? Are my considerations reasonable?

I wanted to add... The 2 considerations I had were both related to pods, the detritus as food for pods and the pods themselves making it back to the tank, are pods overrated anyway and not worth this trouble? Other considerations.

Pods will spread all over.. don't worry about that..

The "Triton" method seems to recommend fuge then skimmer..

Many others do skimmer then fuge..

I'd bet money that it would be difficult to actually measure the difference..
There are likely other details about your specific system that may drive one decision over the other..
