Sepia Officinalis or play cuttlefish roullette?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to secure an order for Sepia Officinalis(common cuttlefish) with Richard Stride from England. However, I just found out that a few local wholesalers regularly get in cuttlefish from Hawaii. I know a guy who can get the cuttles for me from the local wholesaler for about $25 each. The only problem is that I have no earthly idea what species they will be. If it's anything like the last time I tried this, I will get a different species every order. So, I basically get to choose between spending a ton to get them from overseas or taking my chances getting some random species. Does anyone know of a species similar to Sepia Officinalis(as in day active, grows to a decent size) that is from the Pacific or Indian Ocean?

Mike I am unsure what species they are getting from Hawaii? I say take the plunge get some from richard and sell any extras. Do you get your paper work from the F&W police?

Well,

Richard is not able to sell anymore cuttles this season. I am going to talk to my guy who knows the wholesaler today and see what I can do. The wholesaler's cuttlefish is about 6 months old, so he is obviously doing something right. I'll send pics on here when I get the little guys.

I've got a guy locally who gets cuttles from hawaii every fall. Can't ID them, but I hope to see one tonight and snap a few pics for the board. Maybe someone here can ID it.

Cuttlefish from Hawaii

Cuttlefish from Hawaii

Hey, do you suppose you could tell me how to get in contact with the supplier in New York who gets Cuttlefish from Hawaii? I'm in Boston, but I'd be more than willing to drive down to New York to pick one up. I'd much rather do that than order a mystery cuttlefish in unknown condition on the net and have it arrive dead on my doorstep.

Thanks,
Blake
