What's the best product for red algae ie: cyannobacter

Sorry to hear you can't make it. As for your question, I just recently used Chemiclean Red Slime remover. It works very well, within 48 hours (no skimmer, no carbon) no cyano at all and the inhabitants took it just fine.

However this comes at a price. This stuff really bugs out your skimmer. After 48 hours, I did a 25% water change and I then ran carbon for 24/48 hours
and at this point I still cannot skim. I am doing another 25% water change tonight to see if this can get me back to skimming without overflowing the skimmer. So if you are ok with doing a 50+% water change, I'd say go for it.

Hope this helps.

Some more details on the Chemiclean.

Friday @ 4pm - Dosed as directed. Turned off Carbon & Skimmer
Saturday @ 4 pm - Most cyano gone
Sunday 4 pm - Cyano all gone. Started Carbon , 25% Water Change - Skimmer overflows.
Monday - Carbon working, skimmer still overflows.
Tuesday - Carbon working, skimmer still overflows
Wednesday - Another 25% WC, skimmer works perfectly again.

The directions state only a 25% WC is needed, but in reality, a 50% change is needed to get a skimmer back to working order.

I have had a huge outbreak of cyano this summer, due to my typical neglect of the tank during the summer, and not noticing that the pump on an aquaclear running gfo in my sump was not working. I am thinking of trying the chemiclean. If I can make the meeting (not sure yet) I want to talk with you about chemiclean, I have always been hesitant about trying those type of products but it sounds like it worked for you.
