This meeting will be held at Bob's house, please pm him for the address.

Date: Sept 22nd
Time: 1:00 pm

Rapid LED will be doing a LED DIY demonstration at this meeting, so for those of you that are interested in LED you don't want to miss this.

As usual we will have a raffle. The club had purchased some very nice sps colonies and will be fragging them up for this meeting. We will also have other corals available for the raffle. Member are more than welcome to donate corals for this raffle as well. The generousity from the members of this club has been awesome.

Their will be a BBQ, so bring something to grill and share.

I will have more details soon. Please stay tuned

Ok this is how it works, you can contact RapiLed directly and place your order, they will give you 10% discount plus bringing it to the meeting and deliver it to you so you will also saved on shipping. if their in Internet connection at Bob's they might be able to take credit card otherwise you can bring cash. You can also pay for it ahead of time.

RapidLed will also be reading our posts so if you have any questions you can post it here. Let's get this meeting going, so tell me who's going to be there?

Count me in!

RapidLED: Can you tell me if Satis LEDs would be adequate for reef tank? I bought some a while back and would prefer not to have to rebuy 130+ as CREE LEDs.

I understand differences are more lumens per watt output on CREEs, but most people run them at <1amp anyways...

I do plan to buy UV LEDs from you guys and MAYBE meanwell drivers (unless I can find them cheaper elsewhere)...

On a related note, what would you recommend for a 48"x20" footprint tank that is 30" deep with 4-5" deep sandbed.

Can you suggest a color array configuration, total LED count, lens setup. I have Apex with VDM module I plan to wire up. I am doing T5HO+LEF hybrid setup. Center rows are LED, outer has two pairs of T5HO bulbs (front & back).

I will be there and I will be ordering some LED's. Still deciding what leds to get. I want more than just whites and blues, maybe some green, red and UV. I would like them to be dimmable and be able to handle SPS in a std 30 gallon tank. Any suggestions would be great.

Hey, are non believers allowed at this little gathering of the clan? ;)

Grant you will believe lol

Seriously though our meetings are more than just lighting , skimming , wave making, or anything to do with reeding, I think people show up to our meeting mainly because we served good food ... Lol

For those of us new to the club (and with REALLY bad memories for names), what is Bob's 'other' name?

Yeah good question John I also want to know who to contact for the address.

I will be finally buying my LEDs for my biocube.

I can't wait for the upcoming party/frag swap/meeting

My Address is 1935 Alderbrook lane Santa Rosa.

Bring a suit if you want to swim. Pool is heated so it should be warm

You can also email Mike directly, Mike will answer your questions very quickly at this email address.

I was hoping he has time to answer some of the questions here to get the members excited and interested in LEDs.

I haven't seen the Satis LEDs, I couldn't find a spec sheet anywhere online so I'll assume they're like most generic LEDs. They can be used for reef tanks, you'll just need more of them to get the same result (also, a bigger issue is how well they'll perform down the line.. a lot of these LEDs will start degrading/dimming much faster than the other CREE-type LEDs).

For UV's on a 48" x 20" tank I'd go with 72 of the CREE LEDs, more (can't say for sure how much more without datasheets) if you're going with the Satis of course. For color array configuration it depends on the color temperature you're trying to achieve and the heatsink size/layout you have. If don't mind, please email us at staff@rapidled.com and we can help you further, we usually respond to emails much faster and it'll be easier for us to keep track that way.

The 24 LED kit is plenty for a 30g tank, if you'd like to mix in some other colors I'd go with 4-6 UV, 1 red (too much and it'll dominate all the other colors), and 1-2 green/cyan.

Assuming your tank is 16" tall I'd go with the 80 degree optics.

For dimmable kits keep in mind you'll need a reef controller (ie. Apex, Reef Angel, DDC-01, etc) or potentiometers + 10V AC adapter. We do have one of each type, if you need some suggestions please let me know (via email is usually faster though, staff@rapidled.com).

Hi Everyone,

We're very excited to meet everyone next month and look forward to the meet (and some BBQ!). If there are any specific products you'd like to see please feel free to let us know and we'll bring them with us. We're usually not on the forums more than 1-2 times a day but we are on our email all day long so if anyone has any questions that need answering please feel free to contact us at staff@rapidled.com, we'll be more than happy to help answer questions, give recommendations, etc.

Thanks!
