Serenity Reef

Five months ago stopped dosing biggle juice, 10 weeks ago stopped dosing nitrate, phosphate and lugols solutions - 8 weeks ago stopped feeding the tank acropower and roids.
Came home during the week to find the maxspect gyre strip the impeller completely... got no spare parts left over. Personally think constant speed is better for these pumps for longevity.
And my bloody calcium reactor regulator has done it to me again by dumping a ton of CO2 into the reactor.
It's time to clean the glass and do a 20 percent water change today.

Not so sure what to do next...
Should I start carbon dosing?
Should I chase iodine and potassium numbers? Should I biggle juice the tank? Should I just keep doing water changes?

I recently stopped messing with lots of stuff and went back to water changes, koral color and luglos and feeding the fish. Lot less work and money and the acros are all looking better for it :)

That red colony is bloody sweet Nils

Cheers Andrew for stopping by and for rating that frag into mini colony status.
I sorta kinda want to do the biggle (kc) thing without the juice(salifert hard)
Man I had great success doing it - with the addition of lugols.
Have to say mate, you got me to where I am today by simply following your thread.
Thanks for exchanging your ideas and promoting the hobby with the next generation.
I kinda wanted to run a poly filter for a week and then start tinkering again.

Agree with you mate, nothing beats those blue bucket water changes though.

You grow acros a lot better than i do Nils lol............ :)

Thanks for the kind words mate, i don't think i've done much to promote the hobby but i appreciate the thought buddy :)

John sent me a text the other day to say his acros were looking better after three blue bucket water changes and nothing else.......... John thinks something's up with the AF salt too........... ;)
I think the poly filter and more water changes will be a great start, you know what you're doing but like me i think you got a bit caught up in all potion dosing and forgot to just enjoy keeping pretty acros. You have lots of beautiful acros i know mate, they'll look less translucent and more saturated if you let them chill out for a while........... the acros will do the work if you give them a chance to

The gravel vac made you a fireworks frag the other day........ :p

Cheers mate, I almost bought into that AF stuff on the weekend but at the last moment changed my mind.
Since your reply yesterday I have decided to start with iodide and iodate dosing. I will get them up from the 0.00 level they have been for months.
Curious to see the overall effect not just on the blues and purple but I'm sure the others will benefit in health.
5ml Iodion 2 drops Lugols, will repeat dosing these for a few days until I get a reading on the test kits.
Let's see.... oh and nearing the end of this years first blue bucket.

Hello Reefers,
The reef has had some pretty epic failures over the last two weeks. I guess it's ready for the next instalment of fun. Got let off lightly after a power failure due to a cable fault left the tank without power for most of day... only lost one yellow tenius after the tank dropped a few degrees and the calcium reactor spewed a nice plume of powdery white over the tank. Yes you are right in saying a ph controller would have helped in that situation.
So I then proceeded to mince my 24 carat gold torch with the power head in a bid to attempt something on the lines of dust up the calcium dust.... Ok so the torch has recovered from the brush cut and no longer sports the purple tips that I payed good skippy dollars for.
Let's move on to the cracked heater that started to trip out the tank, yes the one full of water, that's been drip drying in the sump in a food container which has prompted me to deploy my first poly filter experiment to suck up any unwanted-ness in the tank.

Now to look forward to..... 6kg of rock added. 5 x 1 inch Chromis added .
I wonder what could be next besides a boring heater or two and a complete aquascape???
It's anyone's guess. Cheers !!!

That sucks, let us know how things recover. How bad was the heater messed up? I have seen those heaters bleach entire tanks overnight. I am so glad I don't need to run one.

Hey guys, I dropped off there for a bit with getting back about the tank.
Everything is back to normal, the torch grew its heads back and looks healthy. The tank was looking a bit poopy for a while so I gave it a shot of biggle juice a couple of weeks ago.
The result is a happy bunch of growing acros.

I've been waiting for Sustainables supplements for a few weeks. The wait is over!!!

A nice haul Christian's frags to test the product on!
Excuse the condition of the frags, photo taken literally minutes after unpacking and dipping them.

That's a nice haul of new frags you got there Nils, looking at the acros behind them i'm sure they'll be a lot more richly colored in a week or two mate

Sustainable reefs potions hey.......... what's in the unmarked bottle mate ?

Do you know what is in each of the bottles, like the ABC stuff.

Dave is auto dosing all that stuff into the SPS holding system and his acros are growing not just looking good lol.
