Question has only chronological interest. It mentioned that it's a flashback to December 7th of 2017 and I just wondered if the vid/event was recorded in December or recorded earlier(summer) and simply created in December.

I think your forgetting that seasons change depending on your location. December in Australia is Summer. Spawning takes place in the GBR during late Spring to early Summer. You were unsure if it was recorded in December as that's not Summer in other parts of the world. It would make sense if that's the date when the video took place as that's when they spawn in Northern Queensland.

Now in "some" seriousness(not my strong point) I thought that the spawning event is taking place only once a year in summer(August?). In case i'm not that mistaken,did the corals held their eggs inside all this time? Because I saw that the footage was taken in December or they were collected in summer and the throw back was created in December?
If they did hold their eggs and delayed the release it sounds really interesting man,as the whole thing(spawning in a acclimation box) is in the first place.

Oh and my most important ?...what in the hell do they light the tank with,mate?

When i picked up those recent acros from Dave's, the water was cloudy and there were pink acro eggs dissolving on the surface. It released during the night and Dave was p$ssed with Christian for sending him the 'loaded branch' lol. Christian and Rick dose three things every day to get the best growth and color from their aquaculture frags but any of the acros that they keep in the system for a couple of months or more can and frequently do spawn every full moon. They usually remove large pieces and hold them for months before breaking them up for export or the LFS's which is why you are seeing weird acro spawnings at odd times all year.
That's why Dave was saying ' one of bloody Christians branches spawned and stuffed up my water ' - not making a video, he is used to it and has told Christian to send him fresh stuff only. I think Christian does it for a joke lol.
Anyway, that's why the whole acro spawning in Ania's shop came about.

When multiple acros spawn repeatedly every second or third full moon they lose a lot of energy recovering rather than growing and the release of one particular element along with the eggs has a browning effect on the acro colors which takes a week or more to overcome. For a commercial business the things that you may find amazing or interesting are just a pain in the arse as Christian calls it when the full moon approaches lol.

I would say a great many knowledgeable people are out of the loop when it comes to what can and can't be done with acropora in a captive system Mike.

It's a bloody joke Connor, Dom has suddenly got his interest back in acros and you and i mean nothing apparently. Anyway, i've been using three little bottles in the last few weeks that make my acros show the colors they do in the wild at last so i have put the whole fish thing behind me - i'm full on acros again.

I took the location parameter under consideration from the start man but i'm almost 100% certain that in the documentaries i've seen about GBR they mentioned the three summer months(If i'm not mistaken that was filmed in august) depending on the temp and other variables,so i took it for granted.I'll go check it again in case i didn't hear something in the right way.
Basically my motive is not to question the info or dates but to see if i'm missing something or have half the picture of the whole thing.

For some reason i find the whole spawn event is soooo interesting,in it's core.I mean all the how's,why's and the whole procedure in general.
Completely agree with, that no one knows 100% what can and can't happen in a captive system in general.That's why i never use stubbornly as an argument to make my case,things that happen in nature.
Had one friend whose huge clam spawned in the tank and the tank crashed in the next day.Another had his massive slimmer spawn(the only sps from at least 60 other he had also in the tank) and the slimmer slowly declined and died in the next few days.
The only thing that spawned in my tank was a clam(without any casualties thank God) and some urchins

Plus what fascinates me even more are the spawnings that happen in the tanks.
Ok in nature they do their thing but in the tanks where they are completely isolated from nature's influence/touch,what makes them spawn?
Maybe i come off like a geek but this ''miracle'' intrigues me very much

I am glad that you have started to post regularly, Andrew. Your tank is inspirational in every way. I am also glad that you are diversifying your fish collection. It would be lovely to see a shoal of anthias too.

I have a question about your skimmer. I have the same skimmer, but the net volume of my tank is much much smaller than yours. I have checked the water level of your skimmer in one of the sump photos. My water level is exactly the same as yours and so is the depth in water in which skimmer sits (I gathered this information from your previous thread). However, the skimmate collection is not great even though my skimmer seems to percolate foam fairly regularly. With this setting I end up getting very dry skimmate. If I raise the water level, I get wet skimmate and water in the skimmer's neck "boils" as opposed to producing foam. I am beginning to wonder if this skimmer is too big for my needs. Should I go back to my previous skimmer, Deltec SC 1350?
