Serpent Star- Ever happen to you?

Fish Warden
So a couple year ago we get a little serpent star. The tan one with black rings, "reef-safe".

Lately it has gotten to a pretty good size. Maybe 10 inches tip to tip and the center about the size of a quarter or more likely $.50.:)

Then a couple weeks ago our barbershop disappears:( . Hmmm, the star has been hanging out near him.

Tonight after the lights go off I notice him moving towards our clowns and "waving" at the smaller one.:eek2:

So he's now in the sump till I find a taker.:mad2:

Wow, that has me worried about mine, I have had 2 of them for quite a while and they are huge, I think I might have to keep a closer eye on them they have been moving about lately since I have been feeding less, maybe they are eyeing my fish.

if you'd like to reasearch shipping cost i'd gladdy pay them to recive and take him off your hands!

Lot easier for me to throw him out or take to the LFS than to do the research for you.;)

well i wouldnt throw him out, that is complete disregard to the hobby, and animal abuse, so i was just trying to be a little helpful but if your an *** about it then thats cool ;) back at ya

Kind of tough for me. Never heard of Mokena.

You post just came off like "if you deal with packing, shipping and everything I'll take him for free."
I know you offered to pay shipping but sending out corals and livestock is a huge PITA that really isn't worth it for a starfish that filled my fish. Especially in winter when I don't have any insulated shipping boxes laying around. Much more involved than just dropping him in the mail-slot at the Post Office.

Now if you wanted to stop by and pick him up, I'd through in a zoa frag. :)

Would such a serpant star attack a mantis shrimp or vice versa?? If this could work, I may be interested.

Yes they will eat fish when they become larger. Watched it happen once years ago with a red lens flashlight at night.

Grunt, THAT must have been interesting to watch!

I think these stars a very cool looking, esp when they get larger--I like them better than the ones with hairs on their arms.

It came from above, wrapped its arms around kinda blocking the fish in and then the body of the body of the star lowered and caught the chromis. Haven't kept serpents since.

If ITS THE green brittle star nicked named the green death.
sometime they will eat fish when they are sleeping lifeless on the floor.

Most brittle and serpent stars don't eat healthy fish unless they are very hungry, they are scavengers by nature, and as they get bigger they need to be fed more. I'm not saying that individuals won't eat your ornamental inverts or go after fish, just that it is unusual for them to eat things llike that if they are well fed. green death is the only one I have heard (I've kept a lot of species, but never that one)will regularly go after healthy tank mates.
