Serpent Star in Sump

Has anyone ever put any "clean up" thing in your sump to keep detritus from building up - like a serpent star? Thinking this would be outside of manual removal of detritus.

I have an emerald crab, a couple hermits and a nassarius snail in the fuge part of my sump with the rock, sand and algae.

Thanks GimpyFin. I've heard of people keeping things in their fuge, but wasn't sure if there were people using sumps without fuges, if they kept anything in there to help maintain detritus build up.

As long as whatever you put in there can't get caught in the intake of the return pump.
