serpent stars

Im thinking about getting a serpent starfish. Are they good?

I have in my tank:

-dog face puffer
-blue linkia starfish
-yellow spotted boxfish
-5 chromis sleep in rocks
-yellow tang
-regal tang
-naso tang
-unicorn tang


Safe with my fish? I heard they may eat fish? Whats a good scavenger starfish?

The dog faced puffer? Generally they would, but mine does not touch anything. He only eats flake food by the pound :lol:

He does not even look at the linkia starfish.

I dont know about the puffer eating them or not, but my 2 serpant stars have never been a problem with any of my fish. Had 2 brittle stars that i had to pull out though.

what did the brittle stars do?

the jurry is still out on wether they killed a chromis, or it died and were just cleaning up, either way, they just got way to big for my ability to sleep at night without fear of one of them climbing out of the tank and attacking me!

The serpant on the other hand has stayed a reasonable size

The Brittle stars, when they become a decent size will take advantage of a wrasse or slower moving fish. At one time fish in my tank would disappear and the brittles would get bigger and bigger. I didn't witness the crime first hand... but... i 'm not taking any chances. By the way since I gave my brittles away... amazing, I haven't had a fish disappear since. Hmmmm, Coincidence? :hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4:
