hi all. i have been working towards a salt set up for a few months. i have 1 55 for a sump tank , 2, 75gal s, and a 150. i want the 150 to be a peninsula so you can see both of the long sides. i dont want to drill the 150. im too spooked.i would be back to square one if it shattered. i have no problem drilling the 75s.

the 150 main tank
1 75 full of rock
1 75 sand tank(refugium)
1 55 for sump tank,(a sulphur denitrator, skimmer,and the like
the big question is can i pump water up out of main tank to 75s above the 150 ?
should it go to the rock tank first( full particles)dirty before a sock or filter at all to feed a few crabs that might not be good for community?.

Yes pumping water upwards against gravity is entirely possible

i know i can pump water up hill.
would it be smart to pump directly into live rock tank straight from show tank?

goes from show tank pumped,then to rock tank drilled to refugeum then back to show . all gravity fed

Let's see if I have this correct...

You have a 150g tank, not drilled you want to use as a display tank, and (2) 75 gallon tanks you want to use as overhead refugiums, and a 55 to use as an overhead sump, all cascading down back into the DT. You're trying to determine the best order to pump the water for ideal filtration, correct?

Personally, (if I were setting up something similar) I would pump from DT to the highest tank, holding the skimmer/misc equipment, then have it drain into the tank with all the rock (I would put the heater in with the rock, which will help balance temperature better) then into the fuge.

IMHO, having the skimmer first will minimize chances for bubbles, and will help pull out the most particulate matter, so it doesn't get trapped in the rocks.

I was just playing because you really didn't make it clear.. Or the reason you were concerned really wasn't/isn't clear..

But.. Sure.. nothing wrong with that..

That will be fine, but be sure to account for all the drain down water when your pump is off. Do not rely on check valves, as sooner or later they will fail and you risk a flood. You will probably need to clean out detritus every 6-12 months from the 75 if you don't run a filter sock.
