Setting Up 18 Gallon- Help!!

Have you read any threads at all in this forum? Lots of info out there. What you ultimately get is based on your budget and what your stocking plan is.

Finally another Via Aqua owner. The ballast are crap but the tank is absolutley beautiful, which is why I have one. They were the best looking nano's I could find. I ditched the light and bought a Sunlight Supply Reef Optix III 150w MH light fixture w/ Icecap ballast. For skimming, I went with an AquaC Remora w/ surface skimmer. For water motion, I use 2 Maxi-jet 600's on a wavemaker. I have a 2 1/2" sandbed and 27lbs of Indonesian LR. This is not my only tank, I was just dying to experiment with a nano and it's become my favorite. I use Tropic Marine salt and C-Balance for supplementation. I researched and planned for months for the perfect set-up, and I must say I think I have the perfect formula, and use only top of the line goods. So far it has been very successful, my growth rates have been excellent. The tank is mainly sps/clam. Let me know if you have any other questions.

no, you don't need it. All you need is a high quality protein skimmer (hang-on back in this case). This goes for any tank, no matter what size. Mechanical filtration simply becomes a nitrate producer. I highly recommed the AquaC Remora, they run around $160 from Marine Depot, Reef Geek and Premium Aquatics. The best investment you can make on a nano.

Supposedly their skimmers are pretty good, but it's an in-tank skimmer, which takes up a lot of room. What filter are you referring to? Once again, 99% of experinced reef keepers warn against the use of mechanical filters. Check out the Remora at www.proteinskimmer.com
