Setting up sump system today - quick question

I have the Eshopps PF-300 overflow mated with an Eshopps RS-100 sump. I got is used. The previous owner just used friction to keep the overflow hose from not coming out of the overflow box. I am wondering if I should just glue it permanently in.

I am talking about that flexible hose that goes from the bulkhead down to the sump filter sock.

Friction as long as it is a tight fit. If you glue it, and you need to remove it you will be unhappy. There is no pressure on it and no need to glue it if the fit is good.

I set it up friction fit and once everything was running I noticed water on the floor. It was leaking from the joint. I also remember the previous owner telling me he had two floods from this system. My guess is the hose came out all the way. Then I though, for a $2 bulkhead and $5 hose, why would I even think of risking it? If (big if) I ever want to remove this hose again, I'll just cut it. So I just glued it and now I'll be able to sleep at night.

no the reason for floods was this system sucks..for lack of a better word. the only HOB overflows worth looking into are lifereef. they will not cause a flood due to their malfunctioning if size properly. the best way to really go is a drilled tank if you can manage that. it is actually easy to drill a tank.

What kind of horror stories? I broke siphon and the tank can handle the sump volume (albeit the pump would probably burn out - looking at auto shutoff float systems) and i turned off the pump and the sump can handle the overflow volume. So what is it that I need to be concerned with?

Aquahub has pump stopper kits. I use theirs on both of our tanks and modify it for dual floats (one in tank, one in sump), alarm sound, etc. It works like a champ.

HERE is the basic kit.

I used M8000 floats from Autotopoff.com, and their brackets.

I used a 110v ac siren pn FW-110a-903AL. The alarm siren is wired in with the 110v light, and it will not reset and restart the pump until the switch is depressed.

I also used a larger box than with the kit, and those can now be had at Aquahub.com.

I also used a larger cord grip to accommodate the larger cord used for power.

Here is a pic of me testing on a lamp. The left float is the tank, and the right goes into the sump. If the overflow gets stopped up, the tank float raises triggering the shut off of the pump. The sump float is a backup if the tank float fails, as that flow will lower when the water gets to a certain level, but before overflowing the tank.

To keep getting anything from stopping up the overflow, with the exception of the tubes (haven't gotten to doing that yet to keep anemones out), I put screens and a bio ball over the tubes of my herbie set up.

Thanks for the link! This system looks good but I want a system that is kind of a reverse float shutoff. If the level in my sump goes too low I want the power cut to the pump. Can this system be modified to work like that or does anyone know of a system that will cut power when the water level is too low?

I found this - anyone ever use this??
