As for stress while in the acclimation box I just watch how the outside fish behave when swimming near the box and how the new fish reacts. I keep the new fish in the box for about a week before releasing. If you're doing a pair I would go with the 20x6x6. Or you can get a 15L clear Rubbermaid that comes with a snap handle and just burn some holes all around the sontainer. Its pretty big for $7.50 at Target. You can use a small rock to hold it down and if you get the holes big enough then you don't have to worry about food not getting in.

I would suggest just finish qt with what you have then add another trio later with the acclimation box. You can start looking for a trio now and qt (I do hypo as well for 8 weeks before going into the DT) when ready acclimate in the box for a week before releasing into the DT.

~$15 at LFS/ Petco...you can drill extra holes in it, for better circulation

The odd thing is, I was observing them most of the day Friday and did not see any signs of trouble until it was too late. I put the last one in a critter cage like the one shown in the post above along with some PVC pipe he could hide in at the first sign of stress and he still died a half day later.
