Hello everyone! I bought a orangespotted filefish from blue zoo at the end of august. It's doing very well...eating nutramar OVA & small mysis. Was thinking about getting another one. I don't know if the one I have is male or female? I don't want to end up with 2 males but maybe 2 females. the one I have now is not brightly colored but very healthy. my question is how do you tell the sex of these fish? thanks!!!

The pelvic fin (bottom side) of the male will have a little orange in it, where the female's will not.

Here the male is above and you can see the orange spot I'm talking about:

Great to hear you have one eating mysis!

Look at the black spot with white dots, it's absent in the female (or possibly the other way around). It's especially obvious when they flare their bottom fin out.

OK, looks like mine is a male. my fish is different... not as much black, hardly any. The dots are in a v-shape on the edges. great photos & 2 very, very nice fish!!! Thanks for the pictures!!! Do you think I could buy a bigger female or should I order one that is close to his size?(male, 2" maybe)
