i am going to be setting up a 20g high tank up in the next few months that will be plumbed into my main tank. (55g reef, 10g fuge) i was thinking of adding some smaller seahorses to the 20 and making it a seahorse only tank. so i have a few questions

1. what would be some good types of seahorses to put in a 20?

2. Can seahorse be fed other things, instead of just pods?

3. If #2 is yes, what do i need to look for? (types of foods, tank raised?)

4. Would cheato be okay as a macro for them or what are some other good macro's? (i am going to avoid caluerpa)

5. what should i use to clean a sandbed?

thanks. any other info i need, websites to get seahorses or stuff for seahorses is greatly appreciated

Temp needs to be kept at 70-74 degrees for tropical seahorses; this can be a problem for tanks plumbed into a reef system.
Seahorse tanks run high on nitrates, this can also be a problem for tanks plumbed into a reef system.
The only tropical species I would consider for a 20 gallon tank would be H. fuscus; and only a pair, the tank would be too small for any other species.
Captive bred seahorses should be eating frozen mysis. Copepods are actually not a good food source for adult seahorses (other than H. zosterae).
There are lots of macros, halimeda, halymenia, codium, ochtodes, etc. Take a look at the marine planted forum on here and on seahorse.org.
Nassarius snails make a good sandbed addition to a seahorse tank.
The only place to get H. fuscus captive bred in the U.S. right now is through ORA. They must be ordered through your LFS. If you decide to go with a larger tank (30 gallons or larger) you can get other seahorse species from www.seahorsesource.com

hmm well maybe a seahorse tank is more into the future for me. i didnt realize a seahore and reef wouldnt mix to well. thank you for the information. i will keep reading up on them until i feel comfortable in setting up a new tank. thanks!!
