Purchased plump yellow tang last Wed, and just started to eat frozen food yesterday-which was my main concern. Would not touch nori.Just noticed this AM that his left eye is cloudy and a little puffy. He is also staying in one area basically hovering. I suspect an injury and have administered epsom salts. All other fish in tank are perfect. 20PPM nitrate-8.2 ph-1.025 sg. What would you do? Watch and wait? Turn off lights? There is no sign of ick. Bought the fish because he was the healthiest fish by appearance that Ive seen at this store in a long time. Tank has been running for 3 months with established live rock. Just need some advice. Thanks- Oh he is not eating today.

what kind of frozen food are you feeding him? I also bought a hippo last week and he is doing great in my 4 month old setup, he really seems to like spectrum pellets as well as a frozen food.

Been feeding mysis, spirulina, angelfish formula. Also omega pellets with garlic ,nori, veggie 8. Only ate some frozen yesterday with a concoction of all frozen combined-selcon as well.

I had exactly this symptom with my yellow tang when I got him. The problem turned out to be a fluke infestation, within days of beginning a Prazipro dosing regimen, his eye was clear again, and within a week the swelling had disappeared.

Hope not Yogre. Anyway latest update from wife who fed tank tonight is that he took frozen food. Never quarantined my fish ever and never a prob. May seriously reconsider if tang doesnt come around. Eating is encouraging and the fact that one eye is infected seems to be some trauma instead of flukes or infection. But thats only what Ive ben reading here and wetwebmedia.Epsom salts is supposed to decrease the swelling behind the eye and have overall therapeutic affect. Can add directly to main tank which is good. I dont want to jump gun yet and set up tank and treat with meds as it may do more harm than good. Hoping things will improve but will be watching intently.

I thought the only think epsom salt would do is raise your magnesium......

Can you point us in the direction of where you read to add epsom salt? Its very interesting to me...

If it is Flukes you can treat Prazi in your main tank just would have to remove any ornamental worms. I have had several fish with cloudiness in one eye that prazi has cleared up.

Yes have administered epsom salts yesterday. Seems to be doing better.RBU1 I read this on RC archives and wetwebmedia. thanks

If you could post a picture of the fish I think someone might have a much better chance of telling you what the issue is. If it is flukes then you may be treating the wrong thing and if its pop-eye then there are better ways of treating it than epsom salts. A picture will be worth a thousand words and might help save your fishes life... Best of luck

Dont think pic is necessary. Bulging eye and rapid pectoral fin movement. Thats it. I feel as though I screwed up on the accimation process and feel horrible about it. Thanks for your comments. If I can get a pic up I will.
