Shallower tank?

Hi all,

I have been out of the hobby for several years and now that I am retired, I am hankering to get back in.
I do want to start on the smaller side and see where it takes me.
I have my eye on a 48 L X 18 W X 16 H, tank for a pretty cheap price. Is that too shallow for fish only at first and then add some corals when the tank gets established? Thanks for any advice.

Definitely not to shallow. Many run tanks on average 16-24 inches. Some shallower for frag tanks, some deeper for aesthetics.

Overall you’re looking about 60 gallons which allows a pretty decent fish selection. Definitely nothing wrong with running fish only then adding corals later. Main issue will be if the fish you add are considered reef safe or not.

Building a tank with close to same dems. I like mine shorter easier to reach and get tank clean. Either right tools don't even get hands wet.
