Shannon Dual 210 Gallon Tank build

Like the design great computer design skills the virtual visual is very detailed and seems like one heck of a setup GL with the project can't wait to see this one up and runnin

I too would leave a gap between the two tanks. About6" would do. Then you could mount vortech powerheads without problems. The gap could be covered over with wood trim to look like the tank went behind a beam in the wall. I think this would be far more aesthetically pleasing than just having the two ends of the tanks come together. Just my. .02

Another thing, I wouldn't mount the QT over the sump. If you have the room, leave the sump as easy to work in as you can. You don't want anything to discourage maintenance.

Update 1

Update 1

Been super busy with work, life, and setting up the tanks. Here is the first update.

First Weekend

Day one
Went and bought lumber for stand. Contractor friend shows up and we look over my plans argue and start cutting legs. Friends show up and we had a gathering. Contractor friend drinks a bottle of crown and feeling bad the next day.

Day two
Slow going since friend is hung over but I push him through and we get stand built and Display Tank 1 on it. Looks good and solid should have no problems with put 2 tanks on this stand. I have put 6" between tanks to have power heads and clean the glass.

Second weekend.

Day 3
Started out by re-explaining everything I wanted and how it was going to go. Bought all supplies needed first thing in the morning to help make the day go smooth. Got the last 2 legs on the stand and the 45 Cross supports in front. Cut wall open to see what we were up against. Found out Foam Logo blocks poured with concrete and metal studs not from top to bottom. The drywall is right on the foam and not furred out from the wall. Cut more drywall off and cut foam out to get new circuits into the DT area. Long Day Went shopping again Bought a utility sink and paint for the garage. I want the sink and garage painted before I finish the filtration setup in garage.

Day 4
More cutting of the walls getting boxes installed and planning on where the wire was going. Cut open walls in garage and pull the circuits over to DT area and Sump Area. Got all drywall back on the walls ready for Fire tape. Bought all plumbing supplies for sink.

Day 5
Rented a large hammer drill to drill 4 1.5 holes in cement walls for Super Flex PVC pipe to go between. Getting walls all button up reminded friend I want a bathroom fan on ceiling to suck out the moisture and heat from with the stand. This became a big deal since he forgot about it again. Went to Lowes and I wanted the best and quietest fan. Got that but no where in town did they have single wall 4" duct. Got fan installed all drywall replaced or fitted back into wall.

Third Weekend

Day 6
I am away at work and contractor friend shows up late get low voltage box put in and inner duck to DT area. Got 4 In duct pipe in and through wall to garage. Cut holes in Stand for bottom drains. Did not get much done so I guess I need to do this myself.

In summary stand frame is build, Bathroom fan in. All electrical boxes are in and wire pulled. Holes in walls to connect sump to DT's drilled. Going slow going to need to find some one that will work with a little more care to get it done this year. I have lots of pics but on an HD SD card that I can not read at work. Will try to post them this weekend if I can find the time.

Plans for the next 3 weeks
  • Waiting on BulkReefSupply to get more 1" ball valves in.
  • Decided to put 125 Gallon tank under the DT's for my transfer tank. This should give me plenty of room for a power outage.

Lot more work than I planned. I am painting the walls in the garage and the ceiling. Hopefully next week I can epoxy the floor in the garage. I am pulling new light circuits since I have cut walls in garage for the fish tank. Added a 30 amp and 50 amp circuit for welders. Going to change the lighting to Florescent lights in the garage. I am also putting inner duct in the walls back to a closet I am making a comm closet. 1 project has lead to many projects and is slowing down the main project.

Lot more work than I planned.
