Shark Tank Again

Thats the link for anyone interested. I have some very experienced Moderators coming soon so it should be a very informative site for both Shark and Ray Enthusiasts. And I agree on the name Shark Central but its too close to Reef Central probable wouldnt be a good thing unless we had the ok from The admins of Reef.

Sorry, but we've never allowed using our resources to promote other boards. We wouldn't do that on your board and ask that you don' either.

thanks

Sorry - I'm a bit late on this - but The japanese horn(bullhead), is a slightly large cousinIt grows to about 4' in length) of the California Horn shark.

It's also a warm temperate species - generally prefers water temps in the 70's.

Japanese Bullheads(Horns) are general fairly rare in the U.S. - which is why they're expensive. Costing around $ 2-3,000 each IIRC.

And like the cali horn & port jackson - they are a hardy species.

A tank that's large enough for an adult port jackson should easily work for an adult japanese.

well - look at this way - for roughly the price of a single Zebra bullhead(Horn) - you could likely get a pair of Japanese shipped in.

BTW - the Zebra (bullhead) horn was running about 5-6 grand each - last I heard.

What types of climate do the bottom dwellers like? Is the avg 78-82 degrees F okay for them? Will I need a chiller to keep it cooler than that?

I always felt 75-78 was best.

Unfortunately for me, the temp in my tank is about 80 all of the time. One day it went up to 87! Nothing bad happened though. It is hard to keep a stable temp in Manhattan. I am still using my air conditioning. The brick buildings are so damn hot even with the windows open.

I'm wondering how most reef fish (Angels, tangs, etc) would fair in mid 70's temps....I'd like to house them with the sharks in my proposed system as well...

I keep them all together with no problem. I have a scopas, yellow and sohal tang in with three sharks (see earlier posts for pics and species).

The aquascaping is important so everyone has there "home base"

75 - 80. It usually runs about 80 in the summer and unuasually warm days (like this week in NY) and about 75-76 in winter months.

I keep a lot of my Reef aquariums at a steady 76.5 degrees F with the chillers. The fish and corals are just fine.

well - depends on the species - as to what temperatures are best.

Most bottom dwelling sharks do best in the 72-80F range, but certain species prefer cooler waters.

Like swell sharks - which need water temps below 65F. or Chain catsharks - which need water temps below 60F.

BTW - japanese horns(bullheads) fit in the range of most bottom-dwellers.
