Shaving Brush

I was trying to find some info on the shaving brush plants but have not really found much. Do they need to grow in a DSB? CC? From what I have found, they should not be an issue as far as trying to grow on the rock.

I had a nano tank with these macros a couple of years ago. They did very well even propagating. They were in a mixture of sand and cc about 2/3 sand to 1/3 cc. There was also a bunch of small shells in there too. They like to grab onto something, that's why I mixed it up.
Sometimes the shaving brush will be damaged during shipping. If the top of the brush is broken, go ahead and cut it below the break. The macro will come back. They will spread by a runner underneath the sand.
They also don't like a lot of flow - a gentle current is all they want.
HTH :)

That is probably the most detailed info I've found so far! Thanks! :) I went ahead and ordered the pack of 5 along with some stuff I was already getting, and was planning on spreading them around to see what worked best. I figure 2 will go in the CC display tank, two will go in the DSB frag tank, and one will get strapped onto a piece of rock and put in the BB macro tank.

I've been having problems getting mine to grow straight, one of them I actually like the way it is growing but the other grows sideways and is terribly difficult to get to stand up

Out of the 5 I got, one of them turned white almost right away. I'm guessing that one didn't make it.

I've got like 5 new shoots. Two of them are already about 3" tall. Not sure if they sprouted from the dead ones or the live ones. They spread a lot faster than I would have thought.

The two dead ones have turned white. When do you remove them? I assume they are only shoote sprouters for a short time... and then they die?

My experience is much like Dela's...two of my three turned whitish after a couple of days, but one of them sent up a sprout a couple of days later.

Dela, did yours turn completely white? Mine turned a light green.

I'm going to leave them all and hope for more sprouts. And even if they die off completely, since they're calcareous, there shouldn't be too much tank pollution.

Yeah, two turned all the way white. Actually, one has since broken in half. Lots of new babies though.

I didn't realize they were calcerous. That is good to know. Maybe it would be good not to have an entire forest growing!

I found this amusing (then again, I am easily amused :) )

My first Penicillus that turned whitish, put up one stem, then grew a new head.

The second one that turned whitish, put up two stems, and yes, two new heads.

The third one has put up THREE stems...and guess what?

Toldja I was easily amused :)
