Shedding Mantle Tridacnia?

Hello:

I have had a Tridacnia for years. Just recently it seems to have become less vibrant both actively and visually. It has also opened up quite a bit and some of the fish are nipping on the mantle.

What I notice beneath the mantle is a bright coloured new mantle.

I thought the clam was old and perhaps dying but now I think it is going through a process of re-newing it's Mantle for some strange reason?

Has anyone else known or heard of such a thing?

neither have I. Clams live for decades also, so unless it was huge when you got it, its not that old.

I'm guessing from the sound of it that this clam has expired.
