i'm going to shipp some soft corals and zoas down to my brother inlaw in fl, planning on using heat packs but not sure where to get them or how many to use? also will it get too hot? nervous shipper..

Depending on the size of container you are using, you should use one or two heatpacks. You can find them at WalMart in the camping/hunting section, sold as hand warmers. Get the larger ones, that are good for 36 hours or more. If you have time, check eBay. Do a search for Uniheat.

If you're using a styrofoam "fish box' to ship, just make sure you tape the warmers to the inside of the lid so they don't touch the fish bags directly. Also, don't completely seal the styro with packing tape, Just a piece or two across the top to hold the lid on. This will allow a small amount of air to get into the box (the heat packs need O2 to stay warm. Also, make sure you use some packing material to keep the bags from moving aorund in the box. If they leak and the heat pack gets wet, it will sdtop working. Also, it helps to wait until the end of the day before taking them to fedex or wherever, so it is less time in the box.

I have shipped hundreds of corals all over the country and have not had a problem. Hope this helps!
