i just traded alot for 25 tubb blues and the guy shipped it to me usps overnight, got stuck for 2 days and now... melting....

sent out two boxes out monday to ship over night guarenteed at usps, one came back to me a day later and the other is still stuck in shipping?! .............

so who's a good shipper?
 
Not the USPS... that was the first mistake. They usually offer cheaper rates, but they are horrible IMO.

When I buy from people, shipping USPS is a deal breaker for me.

I like FedEx... every shipper has problems, but I've had the best luck with them.

Also... shipping near the holidays has problems in itself.
 
I use UPS and hanent had any problems,(besides around x-mas it was a couple of hours late)
I would never use usps durning the winter,if at all.(never have)
 
it was this monday where we both shipped. i thought it was going to be cheap but 48 per box is really cheat! maybe the boxes i used was to big or heavy. 12x12x10, 7LBS
 
i had three zipplock twist and lock containers full of corals in a bag filled with saltwater. three heat packs all packed in the box with 1" thick foam.
 
I do the insulted box thing but I dont think containers are the way to go.I dont use a ton of water.
usps has rules about shipping liquid
 
If it makes you feel better zoas are some of the more resilient critters in our tanks. I've heard about people forgetting them in bags for days, and had them open right up. Myself (and I admit this wasn't one of my better ideas) I got frustrated with my QT tank and it's crappy lighting, and crappier flow, so I just transferred all of my zoas to my main tank with no acclimation....just dropped them in.....huge salinity/temp/lighting difference....I was to the point where I didn't care if they lived or died. Some opened up right away....but of course my tubs blue decided to stay closed over a month....I was ready to write them off, but when I looked today they were just beginning to open back up a little....so, there's always hope...good luck!!!!
 
thanks! that's good to know, i don't really consider corals dead till they completely melted away. expecialy zoas because they are hardy and that's one of the reasons why i like them

nope, when shipping frags you should use breathable bags. and double them up. I'll try to find a link to them but in 24 hours they will let a little bit of your water out but it will allow oxygen back in.

ALWAYS USE FEDEX. Fedex makes their living shipping overnite packages. The USPS makes their living with third class or bulk rate junk mail. Use the carriers that the pros use. Use FedEx. As far as packing, you only need enough water to cover the coral/fish with an inch to spare. Tall skinny fish bags work best. The rest should be air/oxygen.
 
ok, thanks for the input. never heard of breathable bags before * holy bags* hehe. i thought everyone just uses zip lock. i enjoy using the twist and lock ziplock because i never had a leak with them.
 
zip locks are also the worst bag to use, They wouldn't be a option for me to ship in at all. Packages get banged around to much for them IMO
Shipping zoo's only I would use a thermos. Water in, zoo's in, screw lid on, put in box, up to 2 day shipping IMO and they will do great
