Short tentacle plate coral

I have an orange short tentacle fungia plate thats about 3" in diameter. I feed him spirinula enriched brine about twice a week. Im wondering if it can over eat? Normally i use a syringe and just squirt some on and it eats a few and lets the rest float away. Last night however, when i fed it, it didnt let any go and ate a ball of brine shrimp about half the size of the plate. It had to be at least 15 or more shrimp. It opened its mouth very wide, sucked them all in, and closed up around them. Needless to say it was quite puffed up around the mouth for the remainder of the evening. Today, when i got home from work, it looked bigger and better than ive ever seen. Its tentacles were stretched out pretty good swaying in the current and its body was stretched out as far as it could be. After seeing how good it looked today, i feel inclined to give it a big helping each time i feed going forward, but before doing so i wanted to come here and ask for advice. Are there any possible ill effects to it "over eating" or can it over eat at all? Is there a recommended amount of food that should be given to plate coral and or a frequency for how often i should target feed? Thanks in advance- Greg

I feed mine formula two pellets. I released all instead of some once, I have four corals I feed this stuff. Took it all in. Spat about half out an hour later. Once there full the release the rest. Where did you get yours? Mine is neon orange from saltwaterfish.com I ordered a mystery coral and got that for 17 bucks.

I got mine from my lfs here in maryland. Its a beautiful neon orange..

the pic is for color reference only, i know its a really bad shot, the plate was up against the glass so i couldnt get a good pic. Its in a much better spot now ill post a better pic when lights come on tmw

I don't think they can over eat. Corals like this tend to have a mind of their own. Whether you feed them a lot of food or a little, if it doesn't want to eat, it's not going to eat.
It's nice that the coral responded well to your last feeding, but I wouldn't go jamming large portions down it's throat on a regular basis. As long as your lighting is sufficient, feeding the coral once every 2 weeks or so should suffice IMO.

Beautiful coral btw. :)

I use a turkey baster from time to time and lightly shoot some thawed brine or mysis shrimp towards the coral, not at the mouth. If they stick, it works them up to the mouth. I have to do this at night, during the day the fish will steal the food. I wouldn't jam too much down it, just a little in the tentacles.

When i target feed the plate, i always shoot the brine at its tentacles, never on or into its mouth. It pulls all the brine together in a ball near its mouth and then opens wide and sucks it down lol. Thanks for the replies guys
