Should I add red LEDs?

Has anyone found a 3W violet that can run at 700mA? I'd really like to be able to just add two to the series rather than have a whole separate driver for them.

This is a good thread, what color is best. ??? im doing a 48 or 60 over a 75 and was gonna do a 1:1 but now that i think about it there are 3 different kinds of whites,

Do the neutral and warm grow corals,

Can i do a fixture of all cree leds 3 w on the 48 60D driver. multi white color string. then a blue and purple string??

How does all this color **** work, cause i want do build the best fixture.

I want to be happy with the color of my DIY build,,,,,,,

I am the original poster of this thread (I started a new job and couldn't get into this account for a while). It turns out I was concerned over nothing. I have the 50/50 mix mentioned above, and find the color absolutely fine. I get good color and growth, and the renderings of warmer colors is fine. As thefishman said, it's really personal preference, but there's no way I would want neutral or warm white LEDs in the mix (I use both on my fuge light) much less red. Here's a pic of the setup, and it's pretty spot on as far as how the color looks to the eye, except the blue spots the camera brings out are not visible to the eye.

thanks for the input. I think 50 50 is what I will go with . I just wanted to ask a few questions before I pulled the trigger and bought the set up so that I know I will be happy with it for years to come

The red wavelength is rarely seen in deeper water and is not needed in an aquarium without plants. Live plants require a more red spectrum for chlorophyll, but corals require a more blue spectrum.
