Finaly, after 7 years, my blue Damsel die- I think. 5 days ago, came home from work, he jumped out say hi to me and disappeared since then. Question is should I move the rock to pull him out, or just leave it there?... Any idea?
Shin.
If I were you, I'd look for the body unless you have a scavenger crew that can take care of it. I've had three fish disappear and I never found the bodies in the rock. The result was a huge problem with cyanobacteria.
It really depends how big your tank is - if its something like a 20 gallon a fish dying could easily cause a big nutrient spike. If its something more like a 180 with a good cleaner crew you might not even see a spike. I'd say if its a "nano" unless its really heavily stocked in corals to go ahead pull a bit of the rock out to see if you can find him. If its a large tank though I'd just let it go and do lots of tests over the next couple of weeks to make sure a significant spike doesn't happen.
That is true dinoman, I guess i was going from my 120. I have had one fish MIA and was never seen. I also have a Coral bandded shrimp, cleaner shrimp and also pepermints not to metion hundreds of crabs. They leave no stone unturned.
its a 100 Gallons, I know where he live.... Yeah! kind of sad when he's gone, but when he's alive, you can't put anything else in the tank... He's big and mean...
In a hundred gallon tank I would leave a damsel. honestly in a 20g tank I would leave a damsel. The way my tanks are run a single fish is not more then a days worth of feeding. The tank can handle it. I sspect after 7 years yours can too.
I hate disturbing my rock! Every time I do it takes hours to put back how I want it!
If its already been 5 days, I'll bet there's not much left to find.
I keep a small serpent star to take care of anything I cant reach....it works for me.
I've lost a few fish in my 75G, and never had an ammonia/nitrite/nitrate spike. I LOVE my cleanup crew. They make my life a whole lot easier.
If you are confident in your cleanup crew, I would leave the damsel.
