Should I make fish food?

Hey tif, how big are the biggest defrosted chunks in the mix? Is there going to be large pices of squid and such in there or will it be blended small enough to work for small fish setups? All of the store mixed foods I've got so far I end up having to fish out large chunks of silverside or squidies so they dont rot and my cleaner shrimp doesnt get any fatter then his crackhead arse already is! :D

I can't guarantee that there won't be some large chunks. I try to buy only meats that blend down nicely. I stopped using the baby octopus because the tentacles wouldn't chop, there were stringy bits. I like to use the big krill and some silversides. But there will never be a piece bigger than an egg crate cube.

mndfreeze, if youre gonna use it with all small fish, Im thinking you may not like it as there will definitely be some bigger chunks that smaller fish will not be able to eat. If you have a mix of fish sizes, this stuff is great. May not be the best food for a nano due to the sometimes larger peices of squid/clam. Dont get me wrong, Tiff does an awesome job making this food, but I dont think it is suitable for small tanks/fish.

PS - this is based on my experience with the last batch Tiff made. If the recipe is changed on this batch, then disregard my comment. If Tiff makes it like the last batch, then I feel my comment is valid.

Food is done!! I made a truckload and thanks to clingard and his son, we got it done fairly quickly. Thanks so much for your help today!

I have 70 sheets of cubes available - they are 8 x 11 squares of eggcrate (88 cubes) and they are approximately 6-7 ounces of food. They are vacuum sealed.

I have 10 sheets of non-cubes. It is just food pressed in to Quart sized ziplock bags that can be cut to the size you want. There is more like 7-8 ounces of food in these.

I did very well shopping this time. The folks at LeeLee recognized me and even gave me a discount on all the seafood! Price is $10/sheet for either kind of sheet.

For those who were asking, here are the official ingredients:

Squid
Clam
Mussel
Octopus
Large and small krill
Silversides
Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef, Formula II and Spirulina Flakes
Dainichi Marine Veggie FX
New Life Spectrum
Nori
Cyclop-eeze Freezer Bars
Zooplankton
Phytoplankton
Selcon vitamin supplement

I designed this food for my tank, it is as complete as I could make it. It is the only thing that I ever feed and it goes to my fish, corals, filter feeders, anemones, etc. I am very careful about thoroughly washing/rinsing/draining and try to choose only the best ingredients to keep phosphates down. I try to keep the chunks small although there will be the occasional big meaty piece or stringy bit of squid.

First pick up will be next Saturday. Be sure to post here if you are coming so I can send my address: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1874735

There are more than 40 people that expressed initial interest, so it is not going to last. I hate to do it, but it is going to have to be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

I don't want to leave any fish unfed, so I may make another batch. Usually about 1/3 of the people that say they are interested don't ever buy, so we will see how it goes!

Thanks J

I have lots of food left. If you were interested and have not picked up, I am bringing a bunch to the PROP auction on Saturday. Or PM me for a time to pick up.

Sunday is fine slimpickins, I'll PM you my info although I know you've been here.
