And the color on it is amazing

I have a mh.what do you mean to get the meter out? Should I move him closer to the light.the only reason I haven't so it's because a few months back I bought a different one and placed it right beneath and I think I burned him

Par meter will let you know how effective your light is at different distances. might be the tank or it might be the light...

I guess I should pick one up to figure it out. I don't think it's the tank everything else seems to be doing fine, the montiporas and birdsnest are growing fine just the acro acting funny

Dont know the exact numbers but I get my water tested at my lfs.I actually got it tested last week they said everything wasfine but the alk.was low so I've been giving it some buffer also the coral might look Brown because my ,t5s went out recently

I think you need to take a few steps back with your tank.

Dont be so discouraging...
JMAREEF1022, First as mentioned I would check water quality for yourself, your LFS may or may not have good quality test kits, like Hanna, or Salifert for example... See exactly what they are using (albeit API or something).

Look specifically at your Nitrate levels and Phosphate levels to see why we don't have defined color in the tank. High nutrient levels can affect coral growth and coloration. Limiting these nutrients in one form or another will help you with your growth/color/happy coral problem.

If your water quality is stable and within appropriate parameters, then we would turn to lighting. MH lighting is strong, it is possible however that it may not be providing enough PAR*(photosynthetic available radiation) for the corals, which can also cause them to brown out or stop growing.

SPS corals are very demanding of these two mentioned aquarium parameters (water quality and lighting), water movement is another heavy requirement, however I myself am not so sure of it causing coral browning, reduction is growth though, yes.

Hope this helps.

Shawn

Alk swings kills acro. Other corals take it better. Keep alk and ca perfect 24/7, you will rarely if ever encounter problems.
