Should I risk not QT'ing my new fish?

Ok, ordered 2 clowns from liveaquaria.com and they will be here today, except, my Qt tank is out of wack. trates and trites are up and I cannot lower them by the time they arrive, should I risk just putting the guys into the main display? =\

Has anyone ordered clowns from them? Are they usually healthy and ich free?

My experience is that most places keep tank raised separate from wild caught because tank raised usually have less exposure to parasites and illness found in the wild. The ones you ordered are tank raised. I would call Live Aquaria and talk to them. See what they tell you.

Maybe others will chime in... What else do you have in your display?

If it were me - I would probably put them in your display if the QT is not ready.

I would really call Live Aquaria - I hear they're very nice... see what they say! And let me know!

I would think that if you QT is out of wack it would be best for the fish to go directly into the display. If they are captive bred than they should be "parasite free"

I have ordered clowns from them and she was as healthy as a horse and eating 10 minutes after being in the tank. And for being W/C she is incredible. I would just place her straight into the DT.

snommisbor - tank breds aren't in divers den - he didn't say - but these are the tank bred black o's...

v8, I'm with the others, if your quarantine is out of kilter, just put the clowns in the main tank. My experience with tank-bred has been they are very hardy and disease free.

[Kim, I sent you a message regarding the PVC with your LTA.]

Not for nuthin, but how big is your QT? I use a 10gal (8.99$)and do lots of water changes. You should be able to bring the QT around overnite.

With 1 fish and garunteed NO Ich in your DT, you are risking knowing that your DT is clean.

I like to remind myself as a reef keeper that I am NOT lucky. I would say do it the hard way. Keep the piece of mind.

V8, assuming your QT is not too large and things are too out of whack, just empty the whole thing, rinse, and refill with "clean" salt water from your favorite LFS. Put in an extra heater if you have one and you'll have your QT back in shape pronto with little distress on your part. Plus, you'll know that you are doing things right by QT'ing. Even tank raised fish can carry disease.

The first question I have is, why would a QT be out of whack.

A properly setup QT should be barebottom, with heater & "seeded" sponge filter, and a few pvc pipes for cover and hiding.

Nothing more or less, it is setup to quarantine fish and to be taken down after EACH quarantine period (i.e. each new fish introduction).

It should not even be setup to be continuously running due to cross contamination issues.

If you only have one fish in the DT and the water quality is not good in the QT I would not stress them out. As others have said if they are tank raised and bred they should be disease and parasite free. I would acclimate them to my DT and keep an eye on all of them.

For what its worth, I recently bought two of the tank raised black and white ocellaris from DFS. They are in quarantine right now, but they have been healthy since I got them, and were eating about two hours after I got them. They are very cute.
