Should I worry about snails getting stuck in outlet?

Greetings,

I have a CPR Aquafuge HOB refugium/skimmer. My tank is about 3 months old now and I just got a cleaning crew today. These snails are huge! Anyway, do you think I need to worry about them getting stuck in the return outlet? I don't need a flood. However, I have done some searching and I have not seen anyone put anything in front of the return for that reason.

Does the flow of water deter the snails? It came with a Rio 400+.

Thanks,

Ben

Need some clarification, when you say "return" are you referring to the water leaving the display tank and entering the sump/fuge? If so then yes you need to be concerned that they don't clog it for obvious reasons.

This is a HOB refugium. It has a pump that powers the skimmer, the skimmer flows into the refuge, and then it overflows back to the tank. I am wanting to know if a snail would go into the return (overflow) from the refuge, which could cause the hob/refuge to flood due to it being powered by a powerhead.

I haven't seen anyone cover them up with anything. I was thinking about just putting a plus + shapped peice of plastic in front of it, just enough to make it into 4 smaller chambers.

Thanks,

ben

From my experience, snails will go everywhere, though anything as long as it is wet. I don't mean submerged either. My center overflow box in my 125 is smooth water beads over it about 1/8 in. My snails climb over it with most of the snail out of the water and go down my returns into my sump. I made a plastic cage over my pump intake so I would not suck in any stray snails.

I took a few zip ties and made a + in front of it splitting it into 4 parts. I think this will work fine :) and it doesn't have as much of a chance to get clogged as netting would.

putting netting or a screen on it would only create a place for algae to grow, INVITING the snails to sit on the opening to clean it
