Show me your anthias!

I really like these guys. I got a female lyretail and its coloration is kind of off from what most websites describe it. The body is kind of light greenish blue. There's are 2 orange stripes on both cheek. Its eyes are deep, translucent green (weird). Anyway, anyone has pictures of anthias to show off? Im really interested in seeing some pictures of lyretails. Also, please post the following along with your pictures:

1. How big is your tank?
2. How many anthias do you have in your tank?
3. How much and how often do you feed them?
4. Their behavior? (swimming habit, where do they hang, etc)

Sounds like you might have a Hutchii anthias. Sorry I cant add more I own Bicolors, Carberries, Bartlett's and Dispars no Lyre-tails.

1. How big is your tank?
My display is 135g tank with about an 80g sump/fuge.

2. How many anthias do you have in your tank?
I have 6 Lyretail Anthias (1 Male, 5 Females).

3. How much and how often do you feed them?
I try and feed twice a day but sometimes I can only feed once. One feeding is dry foods such as Formula One Pellets and flakes (Prime Reef, Formula I & II). The second feeding is frozen foods such as mysis, brine, cyclopeeze, etc. At first they were picky and only ate mysis but now they are eating almost everything I put in the tank.

4. Their behavior? (swimming habit, where do they hang, etc)
Most of the time they are out in the water column in smaller groups (2 or 3 females hanging out with male somewhere near them) sometimes they will purch on the rocks by themselves. They do not school as much as I thought they would but I believe that is because they are not threatened in the tank. Fish school to protect themselves but since none of my other fish bother them they sometimes chill on their own.

beautiful! I think yoiur male is one of the most colorful I hhave seen....so how do the females get along? is there one that they all consistantly pick on?

Thanks!! There is a single female that has stayed very small but I really don't see it getting picked on much and it eats a lot when I feed the tank. However I think I have a female that is changing into a male because the male is always attacking it and then the female/male attacks some of the other females. This has been going on for some time but I have not seen any damage to any of the fish and none of them have gone into hinding (they are always in the water column).

Here are my resplendent anthias

1. How big is your tank? 265 gallons
2. How many anthias do you have in your tank? Trio, mixed with 4 lyretail anthias
3. How much and how often do you feed them? Once a day - brine/mysis/pellet/cyclopeeze
4. Their behavior? (swimming habit, where do they hang, etc) They kind of hang out toward the back of the tank in lower lighting until there is food in the water column. Then, they swim all over the tank. The lyretails seem to be the more agressive though.

I have a 2x120gal now with a 240gal coming online in a week.
My anthias I have in the tank are Carberri's(5), Bartlett's(3), and Dispars(2) my other tank has 3 Bi-Colors That I haven't taken any pictures of but I think they look the best of all my Anthias.
I feed twice a day brine, mysis, chopped krill, plankton, and flake.
They hang out in one corner of the tank unless food is being served.

1 male, 6 female

Twice a day, once mysis which they LOOOOOOVE, once another (flake, pellet, zooplankton, cylopheeze, etc).

4. Their behavior? (swimming habit, where do they hang, etc)
In QT as I said, all over, but mostly hover swim in the middle. I have some small crates for them to play in/around, and in my 180 I'd like them to do the same. The male occasionally will do a quick run after one of the females, but never overly aggressive or damaging.

Wow nice pictures guys! You guys make me want to get more anthias right now!

So, i have a Hutchii female anthias. Can I mix it with 2 other species? Like a trio of 3 different female anthias? I don't think i can but i asked anyway lol.

If the answer is no, i think i should get a trio of Hutchii anthias then? Should I add a male and female? or Should I add 2 female Hutchii anthias and let one change to male on its own?

By far the best looking lyretail anthias I've seen in captivity during my years in salt water. Congrats!! :thumbsup:

bubbaOPPD - do you find your bicolors to be aggressive? i just had to catch mine as he was terribly bossy - I think he ate 2 yellow clown gobies and pestered a blackcap basslet to death

water column - the bicolor would sometimes hide in caves. The dispars are always in close proximity to each other - all my other anthias are of different species - now that the bicolor is gone, the stocky anthias hangs out with the dispars. The tuka likes the very top of the tank or the very bottom where I may find her resting about 15min. before lights out

Thanks SDguy!!! I have only seen a few pics of Male Lyretail Anthias with the color mine has, I hope he keeps it

Yes. Until now I have only been a fan of the Maldives/Red Sea color variation (red with gold center in the body), but yours is fantastic!

Do you supplement your foods with anything like selcon, vitachem, etc. ?
