Yes. Until now I have only been a fan of the Maldives/Red Sea color variation (red with gold center in the body), but yours is fantastic!

Do you supplement your foods with anything like selcon, vitachem, etc. ?
Yes! Inquiring minds want to know...you didn't dip him in astaxanthin powder did you?

:eek1:  :eek2: I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread...now I want some Anthias!!!

I love the Lyretail and Bicolors.....awesome fish!!

Yes I do. I soak the frozen foods in Garlic Extreme every day along with either Vita-Chem or Selcon. I usually let the food soak for about an hour before I add it to the tank.

I am not sure how much this helps but all my fish have great coloration. I have been keeping my eye on my Solar Wrasse because they tend to lose their colors when not kept as a pair. I have had him for about 6 months and so far his color has gotten better then when I got him :)

FWIW, when I had pink square anthias, I had excellent success keeping their colors vibrant using vitachem (selcon and garlic additives did not exist back then :) ) In fact, they actually got better color over the years I had them, being somewhat washed out when first purchased.

Here's a pic of a section of one of 450 gallon tanks. For anthias this aquarium contains 10 dispars and 1 male lyertail..

Wow nice pictures guys! You guys make me want to get more anthias right now!

So, i have a Hutchii female anthias. Can I mix it with 2 other species? Like a trio of 3 different female anthias? I don't think i can but i asked anyway lol.

If the answer is no, i think i should get a trio of Hutchii anthias then? Should I add a male and female? or Should I add 2 female Hutchii anthias and let one change to male on its own?

Btw. Thanks alot for the pictures and info guys! Love them anthias!

Anyone has the answers? :D

1: 180g
2: 1 (soon to have some lyretail and maybe squarespot friends)
3: 2x (at least if I can and/or remember to feed around lunchtime)
4: This is only my second day with it, but he's out and about already. When up in the water he swims mid level with the green chromis or hangs out in a secluded area to the left of the tank near the sand in the middle of some rocks.

FWIW in my tank I have 1 male dispar, 1 female dispar, 1 female tuka, 1 female stocky and 1 female Cooper's

I also had a bicolor "supermale" which I removed because he was bothering other fish (not the anthias, though he was clearly the dominant fish)

In my experience anthias of different species can be combined, but care must be taken as to the disposition of each species, size of the fishes and their sex

Some anthias species are more mild-mannered than others - Generally speaking it's better to have only 1 male

Angel, do all of your dif. anthias school together? What did you mean by "supermale"?

More pictures please! :D
No they don't - the dispar pair hangs out together. Since the bicolor was removed (just a couple of days), it seems like the stocky joins them a lot. The tuka is a loner, so I just got him a friend (which I didn't mention before - it's a pascalus female, I think they will hang together if it lives)

If I had it to do over I'd buy about 6 dispars - great little fish - someone posted some photos of adults on another thread - I'll look for the link. I personally wouldn't choose Bartlett's because they are more aggressive than the dispars (Both are anthias species that stay fairly small)

If I was in your situation I'd add a dispar harem also! But I don't know enough about Hutchi's....might want at least one more - Your tank size would be a factor of course

Supermale - what I mean is he's a very strong male - he not only would dominant females but also other males - he is very robust and competitive to a fault

Thanks for the replies Angel. You cleared things up abit for me but i still can't decide what anthias to get XD I should have never bought the the Hutchii... but my dad just "had to have a new fish b/c it's a new/bigger tank!" My anthias is pretty cool but dispar and lyretail look so awesome.

I have an interesting thought. Maybe my anthias is a lyretail but its color is gone due to the lack of feeding at the LFS? Its shape is exactly like lyretail. Just that its body is whitish green/blue (like green chromis but paler)

Nvm, i think i'll stick with a shoal of Hutchii. Mine is regaining its color and looking really awesome.

Last question: Should i add 1 male and another female? or should i add 2 more females and let 1 turn male on its own?

Updated my picture. It's amazing what fresh batteries will do for a camera. Info above. Larger version in gallery.

You're going to get varying opinions on that - Here's mine :)

If possible, I'd buy the 2 females, but making sure they are significantly smaller than the existing female. I would also try to see that there is some difference in size between the 2 new females. When you do this, it tends to keep the bickering to a minimum. My recently bickering dispars led to one being found all dried up on the glass brace :(

Wow that's completely against what i thought i should do. I thought by getting 3 females that have the same size, they wouldn't pick on any "smallest" one. Can you explain why would the difference in size minimize the aggression?

Thanks for the reply btw. I was worried that everyone has ignored this post.

More pictures please! :D

You may well find support for your theory -

If the fish are the same size, it may take them longer to sort out the pecking order. Each fish may be less likely to acquiesce thus continued bickering & stress. I would speculate that in this situation you are more likely to end up with more than one male as each fish tries to become the dominant one.

If there's a difference in size normally both fish agree on who is boss. In this case you do not want to purchase a male that is smaller than any of the females. or the dominant female may "decide" she can be the "alpha" male & then you would have 2 males.

Here are my Bartlett's:

I had 8 of these guys at one time BUT

1 died in a tank move
2 died for unknown reasons
3 Jumped out and dried up

So now I'm down to just 2 females.

Does anyone else have problems with their Anthias jumping?

Beautiful bartletts, Psyire. I notice my dispars 'yawn' all the time. weird.

I love those fatheads too. Are they pretty hardy?

Oh, no, Marie. When did yours jump? I haven't had that happen yet and am now up to 4 of the dispars. I guess I should cover the back, I hate to cover the surface of the tank, seems like i'm always 'getting in there'.

Btw, ALL 4 seem to be males, or at least in various stages of morphing into males. I haven't seen one ounce of aggression, except from my hypselosoma anthias who likes to chase them all but then gets confused and tired, lol :p

Here's another shot of a dispar
