Mario that was an awesome idea with the doors!!!! Did you take out the middle 2x4's though?

I designed it to not include a center brace in the front. I used a 2x8 for the top span, the back has braces.. havent had an issue with it yet

the first pic with the wooden stand is what I bought it like... I completely built a new stand for it and used the old one for work bench in my garage.

some of the trim pieces are pine I believe.
the main skin is birch. I used 1/2" birch plywod for the bottom and 1/4" birch plywood for the canopy I belive. the doors are full birch frames with 1/4" birch ply inserts. the trim and crown are all pieces you get from lowes or home depot

I have all the receipts for everything that I bought but there was a point when I couldnt fold them all in half so I ended up just stashing it somewhere.
total costs in everything or just stand and canopy?

both...justa ballpark. i know you probably had to source a lot of vendors for hardware, doors, lumber etc.

keep in mind that the only thing that I bought brand new was my skimmer.
Everything else was used and pieced over time including the tank. (excluding the wood)

Not bad really on the investment.
What do you think you have in just the stand and canopy?
Do you have a build thread somewhere?

probably about 450 - 525 if I had to guess.. thats including stains, rags, brushes etc. The doors were the bulk of that cost since having doors made costs so much

I dont have a build thread on RC but I was thinking of making one. I took pics during the whole build-up but some of its not that detailed like during the staining etc..

WOW! What size tank is that Africa? What are your plans? Very beautiful.

Main tank is 195cmx70cmx70cm, 12mm glass.
(78"x28"x28")

Sump is 150cmx50cmx45cm, 8mm glass
(60"x20"x18")

Filtration will basically be live rock, DSB and a good protein skimmer.
Will include a QT and frag tank into the system plumbing.


Still haven't decided what I'm going to put in it (LOL).
Was keen on a FOWLR, but am feeling a strong affinity to trying out corals.
