It's legal to export softies from there but only if:
1. They have the proper permits (very few of which are issued), and
2. Not so much as a grain of sand comes with the coral.

It's kind of a moot point in this case, though, as the "japanese green toadstools" aren't even found in japan.

I have a Green sarcophyton, imported from Japan (I live in Sweden), I have a few frags so it does grow but very slowly. I would like to know more about what they eat and what lighting they need.
Sometimes the body is pale but when it is happy for some time the skin is green as the same color as the polyps, and the polyps are always fully green
see picture, this is under blue lighte/actinic, it is still green under 14k Metal halide but not so neon.
anybody know more about these beautiful softcorals, where are they from, what depth etc?

We do have green Sarcophyton here in Japan, but they are only like the large pic in Kingfisher 62's Post. The ones being traded as 'Japanese in origin' like the one in Lindholm's post are also available in Japan (for 3000 yen) but are imported and are not from Japanese waters.

I got one, must seem like every one in Sweden has these corals;)
Mine has grown quite a bit since the picture was taken...
