Now you just need some sand in there and you'll be good to go! ;)

don't listen to this guy!;)

Hey T-5 users, anyone using glass or acrylic shields on their tanks? Just curious if there are successful T-5 tanks with one in place.

I have a cheap acrylic "window pane" from Home Depot that I use. Had an accident earlier this year, the tek fixture fell in the water, electocuted me, and burned out the ballasts! Now I have an acrylic "lid" across the whole tank so nothing falls in without my permission! It is the cheapest grade acrylic they sell, and allows UV rays through. Before I had the acrylic sheet, water would splash up and stain the reflectors really bad. Nothing would take the salt spray stains away, vinegar, soap/water, etc.

I would recommend an acrylic cover for any SLS T5 set up for 1) safety, and 2) functionality (ie. eliminate salt spray stains!)

As a side note, the IceCap reflectors are rumored to be more resistent to salt spray, and easier to clean, rendering an acrylic shield less of a necessity. With the SLS, the stain are permanent for me. FYI.

nope. I had to replace mine the stains were so bad. These things are very fragile IMO. If they get stained up you might as well not have them.

no shield, my reflectors look all banged up after 1 year 9 months. I'm sure it has some effect on the percentage of light reflected but I wonder really how much. Does anyone know if you can buy a new reflector set for the Tek lights?

For people who need an acrylic shield, you can just get a piece cut at a plastic shop instead of buying the SLS ones. That's what I did.

I use an 8 bulb teklight

Wow, good looking tank. What's the size? Also, what bulbs are you using?

Mine kept on bending when all the lights are turned on. And goes back when the lights goes off. At one time, it got bent up so bad that it fell on the water. I took it off permanently and raised up my ligting to about 5 inches above the water. No more headaches.

Beautiful tanks everyone. Im glad there is starting to be some legimately nice T5 tanks in North America. So when those MH guys bug us we can say.....uh..look at all these nice T5HO tanks.

So here is my work in progress. I after reading this thread Im gonna scrap the back glass this weekend. I have a '4x'2'x'1 frag tank that is also light with T5. I have some nice frags and other things waiting to be brought up into my display.

Thats hella 6500k!

When I was running the a 8 bulb teklight I went from 2 6500ks down to one because it looked so yellow. Had excellent growth though.
