Show me your tank without liverock

Hi guys,

I'm one of those who really hates aiptasia and majano. Yes, actually that much that I don't want to use liverock when I set up tanks.

So I'm really interested in how you guys do it without the use of liverock.

- Filtration instead of LR?
- How do you achieve a good bacteria flora without LR?
- Waterchanges rutine?
- Supplements or foods for SPS and LPS, to compensate the ultra low nutrition level in the aquarium without LR?

And of course, pictures!

Thanks,
Ken.

Ken, can you get matted filefish (Acreichthys tomentosus) in Norway? I almost broke down my reef due to majanos. A matted filefish took care of them all, and the couple aptasia I had as well. I know it's not the thread topic, but thought I'd mention...

Why don't you let the live rock dry out for a couple of weeks and then soak it in RO water for a couple of months to leach off organics. just qt everything really well after that. I do this on all my tanks and as long as you qt everything wet you should not introduce any pests

At that point, it's not live rock. Why waste the money? Just buy dry base rock from someone like Marco rocks or go the ceramic route like I did. Eventually it will cover with life.

Saw where a guy built his structures out of Egg Crate, never woulda noticed had he not showed how he built it.Its somewhere in the Large Reef Tanks Forum.

I've done 2-3 tanks with dead rock only. Didn't have to do anything special.. Still ended up with aptisia though.. Came in on some rock attached to some coral I bought ^_^

Little joes juice fixes that problem.. which me reminds I need to go hunting tonight ^_^

I don´t have LR. Just using artificial rocks made with plastic. For filtration I´m using 3L of siporax in my sump, good skimmer and 20% water change weekly. No supplements here, just balling for alk, ca and mg. Very simple !

I just upgraded and used all Marco Rock dry rock, then I just seeded the tank using a few pieces of LR that I quarantined and closely inspected for a week.

I also cycled using Microbacter7 and Stability to add some live bacteria to the tank. I then added some small serpent stars, a variety of pods and will be adding some spaghetti worms sometime in the future to help diversify the life in the tank without introducing the pests that come with wild LR.

Here's a pic (granted it was just set up a month ago)...
