Is that a bariene tang? How aggressive do you find it to be? It looks like a pretty young/small one, I've been thinking about getting a 6"+ one.

beautiful fish all!

Heres mine. Had my hippo for about 5 months. Just added the Clown this week. Happy to see the two got along well.

Cool fish.

Not really bashing, but 2 different people with clown tangs in less than 100 gallons each. Wow. That other tang is going to be annihilated.

I thought the same thing... and they both have another rather large surgeonfish paired with the clown tangs.

Actually both my tangs are less then 1.5 inches. Rather small. And yes I do realize when they get bigger they will need a bigger tank. A bigger tank is coming soon.

Whats the deal with tangs and clownfish? Mine get along wonderfully.

Tangs and clownFISH (nemo) are fine. Tangs and clown TANGS can be a problem, as clown tangs can be pretty territorial and aggressive towards other tangs.

Yeah, a clown tang would easily dominate a 1000 gallon tank. They're so cool looking, but tank requirements when they age is insane (you probably have to do it to, otherwise they'll just say ha ha to you and destroy the other tang/fish).

It really is their personality based on the fish though. Most get nasty. The poor track record on clown tangs is the fact that they're usually caught with cyanide. Probably why you see very little in aquaria. This is based on what I've read on this board though.

In either case, both clown tangs' for both owners - they look healthy and full of color anyway.

nice pics all

on the clown tangs... i had a 7" one for a while as a rescue from a fellow reefer... well actually, it was trying to kill his copperband in his tank but i digress... after a few months in my old 120, it was moved to a friend's 600g tank (8x4x3) where it shares real estate with several fish that are MUCH larger/meaner than it is (12" tangs, large cross hatch trigger pair, MEAN gsm clowns)... this one 7-8" fish rules the whole 600 gallons :)

I knew that when we got it. My wife fell in love with them and really wanted one. I came acrossed a very small one and to apease her I got it. Im planning on a new tank, between 150 and 180 in the near future. Right now he seems to get along well with others. If not, Ill find a new home for him.

That is a beautiful Purple tang by the way.

Great pictures everyone. Love them all. About the clown tang. Yea i know what i was getting my self into. But these are my favorite tangs and i just had to grab it. But the thing that i was thinking is that when he gets bigger and starts to get to agressive for my tank i will either trade him in or sell him to another larger tank. Another reason i wanted this fish is because my cousin also with a 90g has a pretty big one. Probably around 6 in. What a BEAUTIFUL fish i think. Question for you guys out there. Do clown tangs grow faster then the average tang?

My tangs

My Blue Hippo and Yellow tangs in the 180G reef. That's a Magnificent Foxface Rabbitfish in there, too. When he was introduced (last) to the tank, the Yellow picked on him unmercifully. Then one day, they began acting like bosom buddies...I think the Yellow was introduced to the Foxface's spines one night...

They now share peacefully in the tank, playing tug of war on seaweed and greens...no aggression seen for months. Each tang has its own cave and the Foxface has its nook and cranny.
All's good.

Very nice. Good to hear that they got a long. I think my sailfin, foxface and clown got in to a little tussle last night. The clown has a little nip on his top fin.

here are the three i had... all three were rescues in that the previous owners couldnt house them anymore... to the 2 guys with clown tangs, i hope you have a really good friend with a huge tank (300g+) who wants a BIG and MEAN fish when it starts to outgrow your system and/or kill your other fish... sorry if this comes across mean, but ive been there and know what these fish will do- and not by my choice... these really are fish better left in the ocean or in a predator/species only setup of several hundred gallons

Great tangs. I know what you mean by saying about the clown tang. When that day comes i will start to think of something.
