Show us your Duncans & advice please!

I don't know if that is true or not. I have only fed mine a few times since i got it 3 months ago. and it has still grown 4 more heads and looks great. I do like the branching look and hope mine continues to do that. I would like to know more about that theory.

Here's a new piece I picked up yesterday.

Well guys and gals it has been about eleven months since I got my first Duncan and It has done well not any crazy growth I am about at 15 heads. I see it is getting a little constricted and I am considerig fragging it to give some of the sheltered heads more light. How are all your's doing? Have you fragged them? If so did it help. Here are some now and then pics of cours a lot of heads are hidden behind it!

Just out of curiousity what kind of lighting do you guys who have slow growth have? I got mine probably 3-4 months ago as a three head frag and when i counted last night there are close to thirty full grown and 9 new baby heads. Mine are probably 30 inches away from a 14k pheonix 250W halide. I will see if i can find a before and after pic at lunch.

Ok so it actually started with four but here are the progression pics. First is after about a week the seccond is probably 2 months ago and the third is last week. On the right hand side of the last pic and you cant see this in the pic is there are 9 new baby heads.

Nice growth Kduen ! Do you feed them?

Does anyone know if there are different varieties of duncans? I saw some today at a LFS and the heads were tiny and nothing like mine. Some of my polyps are about the size of a silver dollar and that is just the oral disk not including the skirt.

Yeah, I have fed mine a few times but that has been about it . They do seem to catch a fair ammount when I feed my fish though.

OK, I finally decided to frag mine this morning. I now have a colony of 8, 6 and a single. Should give them some more light and room for growth!

They were pretty easy. I used a dremel and cut the branch below where the tissue
ended, so I basically was cutting through dead skeleton. Then I attached the peices to some dried base rock with a two part marine putty. It took all of twenty minutes. They are pretty much all opened now. It was so quick it was very little stress on the coral.

I was a little nervous about fragging them but not anymore . Now all the heads are getting good light!

Added note:
I noticed that the fine , fine powder that shot off the dremel blade looks like it bleached the tissue covering the branch where it hit. Might want to take some caution to avoid it.

Updated Pic of mine. Had it a little over a year... Purchased with 4 heads. Now has too many count..

Nice pix, everyone! I'm always amazed at their growth rate. It seems that every time I come back from a 3-5 day vacation, I notice a new head!

My Duncans

My Duncans

I've got two Duncans. They grow like weeds. The pink and green one on the right I've had for about a year. It was a tiny frag of two heads and it is now over 30 with tons of babies. The green one on the left I picked up a few months ago when I bought out a tank from someone getting out of the hobby. It has over 30 heads.

I've got mine under a 10 bulb T5 fixture (540 watts). They definately like medium flow. The are not happy at all when they aren't getting flow. Very much like my Florida Condi Anomone. They love to eat. I feed my homemade food but any meaty food like mysis is good.
